Job Description

The Hardware Operations team is responsible for building and maintaining physical infrastructure behind Google's systems. In this role, you will install, configure, test, troubleshoot, and maintain hardware (e.g., servers and their components) and interact with server software (e.g., Google's Linux clusters). You will deploy and maintain Google's advanced data center server and network infrastructure. The Data Center team designs and operates some of the most sophisticated electrical and HVAC systems in the world. We are an upbeat, creative, team-oriented group of engineers committed to building and operating powerful data centers.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience (degree)
  • Experience with LPIC or working with Linux (e.g., Red Hat, Slackware, Fedora, SUSE, Ubuntu, Debian, Gentoo), Unix (e.g., Solaris, Advanced Interactive Executive (AIX), Berkeley Software Distribution (BSD)), or a related Operating System (experience)
  • Experience with troubleshooting hardware/network issues using Linux tools (experience)
  • Ability to communicate in English fluently to interact with stakeholders (experience)
  • Knowledge of intermediate Operating System, Computer hardware and networking concepts, tools and protocols (experience)
  • Ability to lift/move heavy equipment as required (experience)
  • Ability to travel up to 50% and work on occasional holiday shifts and off hours (experience)

Responsibilities

  • Contribute and lead efforts/projects in the deployment, maintenance, and support of current and new data center infrastructure
  • Lead troubleshooting, and resolve critical or escalated technical issues
  • Help in testing and troubleshooting new server hardware components and designs
  • Configure and troubleshoot Linux Operating System (OS)-related issues on servers
