Advanced Program Lead - Vehicle Dynamics

part-timePosted: Jan 17, 2026

Job Description

Description

At General Motors, our product teams are redefining mobility. Through a human-centered design process, we create vehicles and experiences that are designed not just to be seen, but to be felt. We’re turning today’s impossible into tomorrow’s standard —from breakthrough hardware and battery systems to intuitive design, intelligent software, and next-generation safety and entertainment features.

Every day, our products move millions of people as we aim to make driving safer, smarter, and more connected, shaping the future of transportation on a global scale..

The Role

We are looking for a Lead Engineer to be the primary voice of vehicle dynamics performance (ride and handling) on advanced vehicle development project teams.  This individual will be responsible for leading the application of Vehicle Dynamics resources, tools, and procedures to develop new and refreshed vehicles with winning levels of dynamic performance. The Advanced Program Lead Engineer will use the appropriate balance of knowledge from years of experience, benchmarking, CAE analysis, XiL simulation, and hardware development to make on time, high quality recommendations that are accepted by the program management.

What You’ll Do

  • Translate internal and external feedback into clear vehicle dynamics performance targets and guide selection of the single dynamics target vehicle.
  • Develop designs that meet dynamics requirements while balancing CO₂, mass, and cost goals. Collaborate effectively with NVH, energy, chassis systems, analysis, architecture, design studio, and program leadership.
  • Partner with Advanced Architecture Lead Engineer to develop design and performance strategies for Vehicle Dynamics.
  • Ensure integration needs are captured in component and subsystem SORs; participate in supplier technical reviews.
  • Track dynamics performance against requirements and resolve gaps related to technical specs, Consumer Reports, warranty, customer satisfaction, and media metrics.
  • Communicate results to leadership and integration teams; escalate issues for timely resolution.
  • Lead assigned program teams, ensuring clear communication, engagement, and on-time, high-quality deliverables, including peer reviews and issue resolution.
  • Oversee tire sizing and performance balance to meet vehicle-level dynamics targets.
  • Participate in program meetings, vehicle evaluations, and events to ensure dynamics goals are met.
  • Advocate for complexity reduction to improve execution efficiency and quality.
  • Collaborate on chassis tuning charts and test plans to support dynamics development.
  • Build effective global teams with appropriate regional input on global programs.
  • Develop light weight analytical tools for the larger vehicle dynamics team
  • Collaborate in the development of metrics and methods useful for early vehicle development needs
  • Proactively resolve complex issues and drive timely decisions.
  • Communicate strategies clearly and foster collaboration.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience in chassis subsystem design, development, analysis, or testing—focused on suspensions, steering, tires, brakes, and powertrain mounting for vehicle dynamics.
  • Subjective evaluation skills to assess dynamics and chassis controls, aide in target setting, and monitor performance.
  • Experience with CarSim, Simpack, Adams or related modeling tools.
  • Skilled in designing suspension, steering, tire/wheel, structural, and control systems to meet vehicle-level performance goals and translate them into SORs.
  • Familiar with Consumer Reports performance metrics, prediction tools, and their role in vehicle development.
  • High level of understanding of tire mechanics, vehicle dynamics, and testing practices to achieve balanced performance.
  • Proficient in early-stage design tools and systems: Microsoft Office, TeamCenter, Timing, Quality, Consumer Reports, Warranty, and Market Research.
  • Experienced in applying Design for Six Sigma to develop optimized, robust designs.
  • Strong communicator with a proven ability to deliver clear, persuasive presentations and technical recommendations to leadership.
  • This position requires the ability to legally operate a motor vehicle on a regular basis and successfully complete a Motor Vehicle Report review and subjectively evaluate performance of test vehicles.
  • Willingness to spend time at the Warren Technical Center while based out of the Milford Proving Grounds, as appropriate

What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Master of Science degree in Engineering
  • 8+ years of design, development, analysis or test experience of chassis subsystems, suspensions, steering systems, tires, brakes or powertrain mounting as applied to the development of vehicle level dynamic performance
  • Execution of several program cycles in vehicle ride and handling hardware development
  • High level of proficiency in ride and handling simulation and computer based analysis processes
