ABOUT ABBOTT VASCULAR NETHERLANDS (AVN)

Abbott Vascular Netherlands is located in Heerlen, The Netherlands. Together with the distribution center in the USA we are responsible for the for the worldwide distribution of Abbott’s vascular products. From our 10,000 m2 warehouse we ship an average of 1,700 deliveries per day (765,000 units per month) to hospitals, Abbott distributors and Abbott affiliates in Europe, Middle East, Africa and South America. We do not only ship international on a global scale, also our 200 employees working in the warehouse and office departments come from all over the world. Making us a company of inclusion and diversity. Together as 1 team we make sure that we process customer orders, maintain a high service level to ensure that our customers receive the right products on time. Abbott Vascular Netherlands offers a complete and high standard Supply Chain solution, including an extensive range of value-add logistics activities such as labeling, relabeling and reworking of products to meet country specific needs.

WHAT WILL YOU FOCUS ON DURING YOUR INTERNSHIP?

Background

Your assignment will be in one of the Operations departments in our distribution center in collaboration with the Operational Excellence team. This will make your assignment dynamic, interesting and meaningful. Our aim is to provide a real work experience to our students, so you will work on a project from start to actual implementation. You will be coached and guided on content, stakeholder management, presentation skills and of course your own report. In return, you are going to lead a DMAIC cycle on an actual problem in our organization. We optimize our workflows by understanding the real problem, mapping the current process, capturing inputs from the different stakeholders, and determine the root cause(s). You will identify improvements and implement if possible during your assignment period. During the assignment you will work closely with various roles and departments such as: Warehouse Operators,Supervisors/Teamleads, Quality, Engineering, Supply Chain, as well as your project sponsor in the Site Leadership Team and your A3 coach.

Problem Description

Together we will select a process problem or inefficiency that needs to be resolved in our warehouse processes. This could originate from KPI/metrics not on target or our Strategy to deliver life changing technologies to our Customers and be a Trusted Partner as Center of Excellence for Distribution. Inefficiencies could be considered in lead time of processes, time spend on activities, variation within outcomes, quality defects…and many more.

Objectives

You will spend 100% of your time leading an initiative based on the DMAIC structure about how to make the team more effective within their workflow.
