Join us in Houston, Texas, to be part of a team that sets the standard in the energy sector.

Position Summary

Polar Tankers, a wholly owned subsidiary of ConocoPhillips, specializes in marine transportation of North Slope production. Operating five company-owned, double-hulled Endeavour-class tankers—Polar Endeavour, Polar Resolution, Polar Discovery, Polar Adventure, and Polar Enterprise—we transport oil from Valdez, Alaska, to West Coast U.S. refineries. We also charter third-party vessels as needed.

As an Able Bodied Seaman (AB) - Marine, you'll work under the Chief Mate and Master aboard these vessels. This safety-sensitive role demands a solid grasp of deck machinery, cargo systems, maintenance, navigation, and watchkeeping. You'll enforce rules, participate in drills, and prevent pollution while contributing to seamless operations in the dynamic oil and gas marine transportation industry.

What You Will Do

Your daily responsibilities as an AB will immerse you in critical maritime operations on Polar Tankers. Expect a demanding schedule with two 4-hour watches per 24-hour period, plus routine overtime (not exceeding 15 hours/day or 36 hours/3-day period).

Docking and Undocking Procedures

  • Handle lines, secure the ship, and assist with cargo loading/discharging.
  • Load ballast, gauge tanks with tape, tend mooring lines, and operate valves.
  • Assist crane operations for hoses and stores; bleed lines and monitor for spills.
  • Manage tug lines, heaving lines, and winches; stow equipment post-operation.

Watchkeeping and Navigation

  • Stand watch as lookout or steer from the bridge.
  • Work aloft when required for safety and efficiency.

Maintenance and Upkeep

  • Perform deck maintenance under Boatswain supervision, including rigging, cranes, mooring lines, and safety gear.
  • Maintain decks, superstructure, and assist with tank washing/repairs.
  • Repair equipment and ensure pollution prevention compliance.

This role offers hands-on experience in high-stakes energy sector marine jobs, perfect for skilled seafarers seeking stability with a Fortune 500 energy giant.

What We Are Looking For

We seek dedicated professionals with proven maritime expertise. Basic requirements include:

  • Legal authorization to work full-time in the U.S. for anyone other than your current employer.
  • Current or ability to obtain USCG Able Bodied Seaman (AB) credentials.
  • Valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
  • Strong understanding of deck operations, safety protocols, and emergency response.

Ideal candidates thrive in team-oriented, safety-critical environments and bring experience from tanker or offshore operations. No relocation assistance is available, but Houston serves as the hub for this full-time position.
