The Absence Implementation Consultant role at Symetra Financial is a remote position ideal for professionals passionate about absence and leave management. In this key role, you will lead the implementation of customer absence and leave management solutions, guiding clients through process and system changes while ensuring full compliance with state and federal regulations. Lead end-to-end implementations of absence management solutions, from initial discovery through full deployment. Serve as the go-to subject-matter expert on state and federal leave regulations, system capabilities, and compliance requirements. Partner closely with client leaders, HR teams, and technical partners to ensure absence solutions perfectly align with overarching business objectives.
Oversee the critical transition, validation, and reconciliation of historical FMLA data from legacy systems into modern claim platforms. Design and support the configuration of absence plans, eligibility rules, and efficient time-off workflows. Conduct thorough risk assessments, propose mitigation strategies for compliance and operational challenges, and lead stakeholder alignment sessions, client workshops, and executive briefings.
Deliver comprehensive training, documentation, and guidance to clients throughout the implementation process. Contribute to internal knowledge sharing and best-practice development. Provide post-implementation support, including issue resolution and optimization, and participate in finalist meetings for smaller market opportunities as needed. Minimal travel may be required to support these high-impact activities.
To succeed in this role, candidates need a high school diploma (bachelor’s degree preferred) and at least 2+ years of relevant experience in Disability (STD/LTD), Absence Management, Paid State Plans, or statutory disability programs. Knowledge of state and federal leave regulations is required, with CLMS designation considered a plus. Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and project-management skills are essential, along with the ability to thrive in cross-functional, fast-paced environments. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, for data analysis and interpretation is mandatory.
Symetra’s remote roles require a minimum internet speed of 100 Mbps download and 20 Mbps upload (fiber, cable, or DSL only—no satellite or cellular). All candidates must verify identity via video interviews post-phone screen.
