Job Description

Operating as a fully capable and trusted design leader, the Senior Associate – Architecture is responsible for overseeing the technical delivery and coordination of large-scale Rail/Metro projects. Leading a team of approximately nine staff members, this role ensures that all aspects of design meet the highest standards of quality, compliance, and innovation.

In addition to project leadership, the Senior Associate plays a pivotal role in advancing the firm’s strategic goals. This includes contributing to the evolution of the company’s design philosophy, supporting research, business and development initiatives, and fostering technical excellence across teams. The role involves regular collaboration with senior management and active engagement with clients, consultants, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure successful project outcomes.

  • Lead and resolve technical issues, particularly those involving interdisciplinary coordination and design interfaces.
  • Ensure project delivery aligns with the Design Brief, company standards, industry guidelines, codes, interdisciplinary requirements, and client expectations—both directly and through team oversight.
  • Provide critical design input during early project phases and maintain design leadership throughout all stages.
  • Promote a collaborative and creative team culture, fostering positive morale and multidisciplinary teamwork.
  • Conduct and oversee design and technical quality reviews of all Interior Design deliverables. Make informed aesthetic design direction, material selection and technical decisions to resolve design interfaces, design to budget and interdisciplinary challenges.
  • Lead coordination with specialist sub-consultants, including global delivery centres (EC), other offices, and external partners.
  • Manage resource deployment and ensure services are delivered within the architectural discipline’s budget, including during scope changes.
  • Contribute to cost planning, value engineering, and strategic project decisions.
  • Maintain high standards of quality, safety, and compliance with corporate and regulatory requirements.
  • Plan, monitor, and maintain resourcing schedules and discipline fee tracking across project stages.
  • Applies advanced technical expertise and industry insight to manage complex projects and resolve high-level design challenges.
  • Operates independently, prioritising tasks and achieving project goals with minimal supervision.
  • Leads project teams, mentors junior staff, and communicates effectively with clients and stakeholders to ensure successful outcomes.
  • Identifies and implements process improvements, contributes to innovation, and supports cross-functional collaboration.
  • Provides strategic input on project delivery, technical excellence, and business development opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture or related field; Master's degree preferred
  • Valid professional architecture license
  • Minimum 15+ years of experience in architecture with a strong focus on rail projects
  • Proven track record of successfully leading large-scale rail infrastructure projects
  • Extensive knowledge of rail systems, infrastructure, and related architectural requirements
  • Proficiency in CAD software and other relevant design tools
  • Strong project management skills with relevant certifications (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2) preferred
  • In-depth understanding of sustainable design practices in transportation
  • Familiarity with Middle East building codes and regulations
  • Excellent leadership and team management abilities
  • Strong strategic planning and decision-making skills
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated expertise in budget management and resource allocation
  • Fluency in English; knowledge of Arabic is a plus
