Job Description

_As a Candidate Stormwater Engineer in our Stormwater team, you will provide technical and specialist analysis and design support in stormwater drainage, hydrology, and flood management for a wide range of infrastructure projects, including roads, railways, and urban developments across Africa and globally. The successful candidate will be based in Cape Town or Durban, South Africa._

_Key Responsibilities_

_The successful applicant will be expected to undertake:_

Here is what you will do:

  • _Hydrological analysis of storm rainfall events_
  • _Hydrological and hydraulic analysis of catchment runoff and watercourses_
  • _Hydraulic modelling and design of stormwater reticulation systems, culverts, scour protection, and other flood control structures_
  • _Design of sustainable urban drainage systems (SuDS)_
  • _Preparation of project specifications, bills of quantities, and tender documentation_
  • _Stormwater master planning and flood risk assessments_
  • _Road drainage and hydraulic design of major and minor structures_

Here’s what we’re looking for:

  • _0–3 years of experience in a similar role – essential_
  • _Experience in hydrological studies, hydraulic analysis, and design of stormwater infrastructure such as culverts and bridges – advantageous_
  • _Experience in designing stormwater reticulation systems, scour protection, flood control structures, and runoff treatment and management devices – advantageous_
  • _Familiarity with detailed road drainage design and multi-disciplinary interfaces – advantageous_
  • _Proficiency in drainage analysis and design software (e.g., HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, TUFLOW, PCSWMM, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, GIS) – highly advantageous_
  • _Programming skills (e.g., Python) – advantageous_
  • _Strong verbal and written communication skills_

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent – required
