Job Description

AECOM is seeking an Engineering Manager (Surface Water) experienced with water resources related projects for an opening in our Sacramento, CA office. In this role you’ll have the opportunity to work on a wide variety of projects which may include dams and reservoirs; levees and canals; flood control and resilience; watershed and river restoration; and tunnels and surface water conveyance.

Technical Excellence

  • ​Providing technical support to water infrastructure projects including design, analysis, inspection, construction observation, and regulatory compliance activities.
  • Leading teams for the development of plans, specifications, and construction estimates.
  • Lead technical design teams for analysis of Water resources infrastructure (dams, reservoirs, levees, canals, tunnels, pipelines, flood protection systems, and conveyance facilities) projects.
  • Preparation of technical reports, memos, and engineering design and construction related documents.

Business Development

  • Lead strategic business development initiatives, including client relationship management, pursuit planning, and proposal oversight to secure new projects and expand market share.
  • Identify and cultivate long-term partnerships with key clients, industry stakeholders, and teaming partners to position the firm for future growth.
  • Develop market intelligence to identify emerging opportunities and guide strategic positioning in targeted sectors.

People Management

  • Mentor, coach, and develop high-performing teams, fostering a culture of collaboration, technical excellence, and accountability.
  • Oversee resource planning and workload management across multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal staffing and project delivery.
  • Drive talent acquisition, retention, and succession planning efforts to build organizational capacity and maintain competitive advantage.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 8+ years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
  • California Professional Engineer’s (PE) license or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 20+ years of civil engineering experience related to water resource projects
  • 5+ years managing other civil engineers
  • Master’s degree in civil engineering
  • Experience with Reclamation, DWR, USACE or other west coast water agencies and projects

Additional Information

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $170,000.00 - $220,000.00.
