Job Description

The Land Surveyor will be responsible for performing precise surveying and setting-out activities for stormwater and microtunneling works, including shafts, tunnels, pipelines, chambers, and related structures. The role ensures that all construction alignments, levels, and coordinates are established accurately and in accordance with approved drawings, project specifications, and RTA/DM standards.

Job Duties

  • Perform topographic, control, and setting-out surveys for stormwater and microtunneling works, including pipelines, shafts, manholes, and associated civil structures.
  • Establish, verify, and maintain survey control points, benchmarks, and reference grids in coordination with the contractor’s survey team.
  • Review and apply approved IFC drawings, alignment data, and coordinate systems in compliance with RTA and project requirements.
  • Check and verify horizontal and vertical alignments, pipe inverts, tunnel drives, and shaft locations prior to and during construction.
  • Ensure that all setting-out activities are carried out in accordance with approved method statements and calibration procedures.
  • Conduct as-built surveys and verify the accuracy of contractors’ as-built drawings prior to submission.
  • Monitor microtunneling drive alignments and breakthrough coordinates, ensuring compliance with allowable tolerances.
  • Maintain up-to-date survey records, field books, and digital data files, ensuring full traceability of survey operations.
  • Coordinate with the contractor and supervision team to resolve survey discrepancies or deviations on-site.
  • Verify and certify survey results for measurement sheets, interim payments, and progress verification.
  • Participate in pre-construction and progress meetings to provide input on survey status, site constraints, and required actions.
  • Ensure full compliance with HSE standards during all field operations, particularly in confined-space and shaft areas.
  • Calibrate and maintain survey instruments (total stations, GPS, digital levels) in accordance with project QA/QC procedures.
  • Provide support during testing, commissioning, and handover stages by verifying final levels and coordinates.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Surveying, Civil Engineering, or related discipline.
  • RTA approval and certification for Microtunneling Works is mandatory.
  • Certification in surveying instruments and data management is an advantage.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, GPS, Total Station, and surveying software.
  • Familiar with RTA, DM, and DEWA standards for utility and infrastructure projects.

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 7 years of experience in surveying and setting-out for infrastructure projects, particularly stormwater drainage and microtunneling works.
  • Proven experience with deep pipeline, shaft construction, and tunnel alignment monitoring.
  • Strong understanding of coordinate systems, datum control, and vertical alignment verification.
  • Prior UAE experience—especially in Dubai—and familiarity with RTA and DM project procedures.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary supervision team, maintaining precision, documentation accuracy, and safety awareness.
