Job Description

AECOM is seeking a talented Lead Wetland Delineator (Biologist III) to join our dynamic team of environmental professionals in the San Francisco Bay Area. This hybrid position is based in AECOM’s Oakland office and would support a variety of clients on projects throughout northern California.

The local Natural Resources Department employs more than 35 staff, including botanists, wetland specialists, permitting specialists, and wildlife biologists. The Department is dynamic, energetic, and one where diligent work is rewarded. Project work at this office is primarily related to transportation, utilities, infrastructure, and restoration, and involves field surveys, restoration planning, environmental permitting, NEPA/CEQA compliance, and project monitoring.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Leads field delineations of wetlands and waters to determine the limits of federal and state jurisdiction.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge on current regulations regarding wetlands and waters.
  • Uses technical expertise to assess wetlands and waters, address complex situations, and provide strategies and recommendations on avoidance and minimization of impacts.
  • Prepares Aquatic Resources Delineation Reports and other technical documentation.
  • Mentors early career staff in field delineation and reporting.
  • Other responsibilities may include preparation of permit applications and technical reports, technical review of documents prepared by others, biological surveys (botanical, wildlife, etc.), and/or construction compliance tasks.
  • Contributes as an active and positive member of AECOM’s Environmental Planning and Permitting practice in the SF Bay Area.
  • Field work is often local but occasionally may include overnight travel to other locations.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, Ecology, or a related field.
  • 4 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education in conducting delineations of wetlands and waters.
  • Valid driver's license is required for this role to safely drive to project sites.
  • Due to the nature of the work, US Citizenship is required.

Preferred Skills/Experience:

  • 6 years of relevant experience in wetland delineations experience.
  • Has been lead author of jurisdictional delineation reports.
  • Field leadership experience.
  • Has a positive attitude and is adaptable to changing priorities in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Highly organized with a strong detail-oriented work style.
  • Experience in preparing and reviewing permit application packages for submittal to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and Regional Water Quality Control Board.
  • Experience preparing permit application packages for submittal to California Coastal Commission.
  • Experience conducting aquatic resources delineations in northern California.
  • Task or Project management experience.
  • Experience preparing scopes of work and cost estimates.
  • Knowledgeable about plant species found in wetland habitats and is capable of identifying and keying out plant species.
  • Experience conducting other types of biological surveys and reporting, such as botanical or wildlife surveys and technical reports.

Offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The range for this position is $85000 to $110000.
