Job Description

AECOM is seeking a Mechanical Engineer III based in Orange, California.

Join our dynamic team supporting exciting projects! Work independently and make technical decisions based on building code interpretation as well as company, client, and industry standard practices. Mentor and teach junior engineers. Grow your career with us in our Building+ Places group.

Job Summary/Responsibilities

  • Perform assignments requiring application of standard techniques, procedures and criteria to carry out engineering tasks
  • Lead the preparation of deliverables and products such as presentation materials, calculations, drawings, specifications, and reports, ventilating, and air-conditioning (HVAC) for commercial, governmental, and institutional facilities
  • Exercise judgment limited to developing details of work in making preliminary selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives
  • Prepare engineering related calculations and develop drawings and visual aids
  • Lead the mechanical design of heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems for commercial and institutional facilities
  • Basic knowledge of industry standard computer software (AutoCAD, Carrier HAP, Trane Trace)
  • Work independently as well as guide junior engineers as needed on projects
  • Deliver complete, accurate, and coordinated project design assignments within time and budget parameters while satisfying client contractual obligations
  • Perform field investigations for incorporation of existing conditions into construction documents
  • Work within a project team environment and coordinate work with other project disciplines
  • Maintain and organize all project-related documentation
  • Plan and organize work that follows a defined process
  • Work independently and make technical decisions based on building code interpretation as well as company, client, and industry standard practices.
  • Mentor and teach junior engineers

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree plus four years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Revit, at least 4 years of experience
  • Licensed Professional Engineer Licensed – Mechanical
  • Extensive understanding of HVAC engineering fundamentals including load calculations, conceptual systems analysis through construction documentation design, design and layout of equipment, duct, and pipe sizing
  • Plumbing and Fire Protection systems design experience is a plus
  • Experience with Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC)
  • Visit client sites for accurate existing conditions gathering
  • Experience with Design Build and other Alternative Delivery practices
  • Analyze equipment energy use for optimizing systems selection (EnergyPro, eQuest, IES)
  • Instrumentation and controls design/engineering experience
