Job Description

Join AECOM’s dynamic Auckland Transport team and take a pivotal role in shaping some of New Zealand’s most high-profile and complex infrastructure projects. We are looking for a Principal Civil Engineer specialising in Utilities to provide and undertake hands on utilities design as well as technical leadership to more junior utilities engineers. You will help to deliver major brownfield and transport corridor projects such as Eastern Busway and other landmark urban developments.

In this role, you will combine hands-on engineering expertise with strategic oversight and will have experience on major brownfield infrastructure projects. You will be leading the design and delivery of utilities works, coordinating across multiple disciplines, and collaborating closely with stakeholders to ensure successful, integrated project outcomes.

How you’ll make a difference

  • Deliver utilities design using 12d, ensuring technical accuracy on major brownfield projects.
  • Lead and manage junior utilities engineers, providing guidance and oversight on project tasks and deliverables.
  • Coordinate interdisciplinary design work, collaborating with other disciplines and liaising with asset owners to integrate utilities solutions.
  • Apply local design standards and frameworks, engaging with stakeholders such as Vector, Watercare, and Chorus to ensure compliance and smooth project delivery.

  • Proficient in 12d software, with strong local project experience; CPEng preferred.
  • Experience on major brownfield infrastructure projects, able to work across existing utilities and complex site conditions.
  • Strong interdisciplinary communication skills; able to collaborate effectively with designers, engineers, and asset owners.
