Job Description

The Senior Civil Engineer will support the Resident Engineer in supervising and managing the construction of stormwater drainage networks, microtunneling works, and associated civil structures. The role ensures that all activities are executed in full compliance with contract requirements, approved drawings, specifications, and RTA/DM standards, maintaining strict adherence to quality, safety, and schedule objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement QA/QC procedures applicable to stormwater and microtunneling works, including inspection and test plans (ITPs) and method statements.
  • Conduct and follow up on inspections for installations, ensuring compliance with approved drawings, specifications, and quality standards.
  • Monitor and review inspectors’ performance, ensuring effective supervision and documentation of site activities.
  • Update and report progress for all assigned works to the Resident Engineer / Project Manager for inclusion in project progress reports.
  • Review and verify updated records to ensure accurate preparation of as-built documentation .
  • Check, verify, and coordinate for all assigned services, including civil, structural, and MEP interfaces .
  • Coordinate with the Head Office design team for material submittal reviews, design queries, and technical clarifications.
  • Oversee and inspect construction activities for stormwater pipelines, microtunneling drives, shafts, manholes, valve chambers, washout chambers, air valves, and connection chambers , ensuring compliance with the approved sequence and methodology.
  • Ensure strict adherence to HSE standards and safe work procedures during all site activities.
  • Support the Resident Engineer in resolving site-related technical issues and providing input for potential design modifications or value engineering opportunities.
  • Review and comment on contractors’ technical submittals , shop drawings , and method statements related to microtunneling and stormwater systems.
  • Ensure all works are executed in accordance with RTA, DM, and other local authority requirements .
  • Assist in the evaluation of contractors’ progress claims, variation proposals, and change requests.
  • Maintain close coordination with the supervision team to ensure quality, safety, and progress objectives are consistently achieved.

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 15 years of post-graduate experience in the supervision and construction of stormwater drainage networks and microtunneling works .
  • Proven experience in deep pipeline installations , shaft construction , and large-diameter pipe works (600 mm to 4,000 mm).
  • Demonstrated experience in non-disruptive road crossings (NDRC) , connection chambers , and interface management with existing infrastructure.
  • Previous UAE experience , particularly in Dubai , is essential, with strong familiarity with RTA and DM requirements.
  • Proven ability to manage site teams and coordinate effectively with contractors, designers, and clients to ensure successful project delivery.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline (Master’s Degree preferred).
  • Professional accreditation or membership in a recognized engineering institution (e.g., ICE, ASCE) is an advantage.
  • Strong understanding of Dubai Authority procedures and standards (RTA, DM, DEWA, etc.).
