If you’re passionate about environmental planning, thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment, and want to make a real impact through your work—this is your opportunity. In this role, you’ll apply your experience in municipal infrastructure, Class Environmental Assessments (EAs), Federal Impact Assessments, and projects governed by their own regulatory frameworks. You’ll drive projects forward while ensuring that environmental values are identified, assessed, and protected—all while working with a multi-disciplinary team of technical experts and stakeholders.

Responsibilities: As a senior planner, you’ll play a leadership role in every phase of the project lifecycle, from early-stage planning through permitting and approvals. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Designing and delivering effective consultation and engagement programs with Indigenous communities, stakeholders, regulatory agencies, and the public—whether through Public Information Centres (virtual or in-person), notices, or open houses.
  • Navigating permitting and regulatory requirements by liaising with local, provincial, and federal authorities.
  • Managing records of consultation, including tracking engagement with Rights holders and stakeholders.
  • Coordinating technical specialists in disciplines such as fish and fish habitat, terrestrial ecology, noise, air quality, archaeology, built heritage, climate change, contamination, groundwater, and more.
  • Conducting site visits to evaluate environmental conditions and constraints.
  • Leading assessments of environmental features, potential impacts, and developing avoidance, mitigation, and enhancement strategies.
  • Advising internal teams and clients on legislation, guidelines, and environmental policy.
  • Preparing clear, compelling environmental documentation and reports for various project stages, from planning through construction.
  • Supporting client relationships and project meetings, both remotely and in-person.
  • Playing an active role in business development—writing proposals, participating in industry events, and contributing to AECOM’s thought leadership.
  • Mentoring junior staff and sharing knowledge through our Technical Practice Groups.
  • Leading or supporting project management duties including work planning, budget tracking, and scheduling.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Planning, Environmental Science/Studies, Urban and Regional Planning, or a related field
  • At least 6 years of relevant professional experience
  • Solid understanding of Ontario’s environmental planning and regulatory frameworks, including:
  • Class Environmental Assessment process (Municipal, Provincial, and Remedial Flood/Erosion)
  • Environmental Assessment Act and Impact Assessment Act
  • Fisheries Act, Endangered Species Act, and Navigation Protection Act
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with clients, design teams, and regulatory agencies
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Valid Ontario Class G driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 12+ years of progressively responsible experience in environmental planning or assessment
  • Experience leading multi-disciplinary teams on complex environmental projects
  • Full or provisional membership in a recognized professional association (e.g., RPP/MCIP, EP, PMP)
  • Familiarity with federal and provincial Indigenous engagement protocols
