Job Description

AECOMis seeking a Track Design Engineer for immediate employment in our New York Metro Track Team. The position is exciting, challenging, fast paced and will empower any self-motivated candidate to grow rapidly both from a technical standpoint and from a career/mentoring/business perspective.

  • Engage in Rail-Transit projects across all design stages, from conceptual (5 to 15%) through to final (100%) completion, ensuring adherence to the highest standards of engineering excellence.
  • Support the design development and delivery of high-quality technical products for track projects, collaborating with a team of managers and discipline leaders. These deliverables include comprehensive documentation from conceptual engineering to construction phases, detailed reports, precise cost estimates, and other essential materials.
  • Orchestrate the integration of interdisciplinary structural, site/civil, and architectural requirements with track plans, maintaining a holistic approach to project design.
  • Conduct rigorous QC reviews and provide authoritative approval for track designs prepared by other team members, upholding the utmost quality standards.
  • Formulate precise budget estimates and schedules for the track engineering components of projects, ensuring optimal resource allocation and timely delivery.
  • Execute comprehensive field track inspections and develop stringent testing requirements, maintaining the highest levels of safety and operational efficiency.
  • Manage multiple projects within the Right of Way (ROW), collaborating effectively with other track staff to ensure seamless project execution and coordination.
  • Understanding of turnout componentry/special track work and its functionality, and its design and typical procurement process

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BA/BS plus four years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License in the State of New York and/or New Jersey or ability to obtain within a year.
  • Valid US Driver's License

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and proficiency in MTA New York City Transit Design and Engineering including commuter/heavy rail criteria, specifically with Long Island Rail Road, Metro North Railroad or New Jersey Transit criteria
  • Proficiency in Light Rail Track Design and Engineering
  • Proficiency in AREMA Guidelines, track geometry, various Rail-Transit client requirements/standards, and the Design-Bid-Build and Design-Build process
  • Experience developing client focused design criteria that will drive calculations towards the production of real-world track geometry and components that will then undergo applicable QA/QC review and validation
  • Experience with leading the presentation of track data/findings and explaining such information to a non-track or non-technical audience.
  • Ability to travel to meet with clients and attend site meetings. Ability to be ROW safety trained and meet FRA criteria to be on active railroad sites

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $115,000.00 - $125,000.00.
