Job Description:

Within NH90 Chief engineering organization and as part of the Engineering Contract Execution team, you will be responsible as Contract Chief Engineer for the Spanish Contracts.

Your Mission will be to lead the helicopter development projects within the assigned perimeter, with all involved stakeholders (in and outside of engineering, internal and external to AHG) to ensure they are achieved on time/cost and quality, to Customer satisfaction, in compliance with the applicable internal and external rules & regulations.

Your scope includes all related engineering activities in AHE, AH and AHD

You are responsible for the overall development logic, design/technical definition, development and qualification/certification activities, engineering deliverables, alignment of involved project teams, interaction/coordination (as AHG focal point) with NHIndustries, other Partner Companies, and Customer representatives.     

This includes the following main tasks and activities:

  • Capturing and understanding the needs and constraints of our NH90 Spanish operators/Customers. Translating operational needs into technical requirements.
  • Ensure convergence on the main technical solutions affecting the H/C characteristics or compliance to the regulatory and Customer requirements
  • Define, align and flow down project development activities (incl. work breakdown, development logic, scheduling, budget & resources, quality and risk management) to all relevant contributors
  • Define, implement and drive relevant project teams all along the different project phases, including people coming from other engineering functions.
  • Ensure commitment on needed deliverables, planning and costs within the overall project constraints from the relevant project teams.
  • Lead design reviews & maturity gates feeders, follow progress, support solving blocking issues, ensure proper risks & opportunities management, ensure escalation when required.
  • Act as project focal point towards the different involved disciplines (Program, production, support, lead functions, and suppliers as applicable), ensure the required coordination/drumbeat of contributors in conjunction with the relevant project team leaders and assure the alignment with NHI and the other Partner Companies
  • Lead related engineering change and aircraft configuration management, from customer change requests to inputs towards production and technical publications.
  • Contribute to the preparation of offers for Contract Amendments and ensure consistency/consolidation with the ongoing development logic/planning.
  • Manage interdependencies/ Interfaces with related other contracts (e.g. Optronics contract with France).
  • Lead the qualification/ certification of the product and required flight permits for test flights.
  • Support production, integrated logistics and customer support. Assure continuous safe operations.
  • Contribute continuously to improve our overall engineering efficiency by ensuring effective integration of lessons learned, identification and deployment of improvement actions (as aligned with other stakeholders where relevant)
  • Support and apply agile working methods

  • NH90 Production & Support (e.g. Tech Pub)
  • Procurement & Suppliers
  • Customers & authorities (in NAHEMA nations and Spain)
  • Partner Companies (Leonardo Helicopters, GKN Fooker) and NHIndustries

Skills & Prerequisites:

  • Professional Experience: At least 10 years (experienced) in engineering and 5 years in Project/Program Management
  • Education: Master’s degree (or equivalent) in aeronautics, engineering or related discipline
  • Technical Competences: Good knowledge of helicopter systems, architecture and related operational missions/environments with a plus for military systems/missions.
  • Strong leadership skills including ability to:
    • Federate and align people across different organizations
    • Take ownership with a welcome problems attitude
    • Operate in an international complex organizational environment with a multicultural mind-set and creating a sense of belonging/purpose/team spirit
    • Work under pressure in a challenging environment
