Intern in Payload Data Processing for space-borne Instruments (d/f/m)

In strong collaboration with the instrument engineering teams, the department develops the on-ground processing of scientific instrument measurement data.

This internship deals with remote sensing data processing and software development (mixed scientific and engineering task) for Earth Observation missions. As an intern (d/f/m) you will learn about engineering in a cross-disciplinary and international team, Earth observation from space and space science methods, software development in a mixed science and industry context, professional software development (algorithm development and test, code hygiene, performance optimization, testing tool-chain, build chains).

Your tasks and responsibilities

  • Understanding the Measurement Concept of the Earth Observation payload and its data processing concept.

  • Design, prototyping and analysis of algorithms for the geometric, radiometric and spectral processing of remote sensing data from space born instruments (imager, radar, sounder).

  • Ability to identify the activities of the development life cycle that are necessary to develop a system/product and provide the level of confidence which is consistent with regulation and program requirements.

 

 Desired skills and qualifications

  • Enrolled full-time student (d/f/m) within aerospace or numerical engineering, natural sciences, physics, mathematics, software engineering or similar field of study.

  • Basic experience in Matlab or Python.

  • Experience in the domain of Numerical Analysis/Computational Physics is an asset.

  • Experience in version control systems (e.g. git) and collaborative workflow is an asset.

  • German or English: fluent.
