This position requires the acquisition of an in-depth understanding and knowledge of the measurement principles of space-born remote sensing instruments and the related instrument and satellite induced measurement distortions as well as the corresponding corrective data processing approaches. This applies the establishment of good working relationships to Space System projects and the international scientific and engineering community. In the midterm perspective, the successful candidate (d/f/m) will have to understand customer's usage of the different remote sensing data products and the resulting needs on the data content, quality and reliability.

Your tasks and responsibilities

  • Design, prototyping and analysis of algorithms for the geometric, radiometric and spectral processing of remote sensing data from space born instruments (imager, radar, sounder)

  • Definition, implementation and use of simulations models to generate representative data for the analysis of these algorithms, covering the scene of observation, the instrument signal path and the relevant satellite characteristics

  • Establishment of specifications and verification plans for end-to-end simulators supporting performance assessments and the operational processing of satellite remote sensing data.

Desired Skills and Qualifications

  • Master degree in Engineering / Simulations, Modeling, or Physics, Mathematics, Aeorospace, Electrical Engineering equivalent

  • Proven expertise in at least one of the following domains: image processing, geometric data processing (geolocation), geodesy, spectrometer or interferometer or radar data processing, Earth remote sensing, space instrument design and performance

  • Broad physical and mathematical background

  • General knowledge in numerical modelling and simulation

  • Software Engineering background (Git, Continuous Integration, S/W builds)

  • Knowledge and experience in programming such as C++ and Python (or Matlab)

  • Experience working in an agile S/W project (Scrum) is an asset

  • Background in processes and standards in space industry is an asset

  • English/German: fluent

In the frame of the design and development of processing methods and algorithms for data from space-born remote sensing instruments within satellite projects:

Diese Position erfordert die Aneignung eines tiefgreifenden Verständnisses und Wissens über die Messprinzipien weltraumgestützter Fernerkundungsinstrumente und die damit verbundenen instrumenten- und satellitenbedingten Messverzerrungen sowie die entsprechenden Ansätze zur Korrektur der Datenverarbeitung. Dies gilt auch für den Aufbau guter Arbeitsbeziehungen zu Raumfahrtsystemprojekten und der internationalen wissenschaftlichen und technischen Gemeinschaft. Mittelfristig muss der erfolgreiche Bewerber (d/m/w) die Nutzung der verschiedenen Fernerkundungsdatenprodukte durch die Kunden und die sich daraus ergebenden Anforderungen an den Inhalt, die Qualität und die Zuverlässigkeit der Daten verstehen

Deine Aufgaben und Verantwortlichkeiten

Responsibilities

  • Design, prototyping and analysis of algorithms for the geometric, radiometric and spectral processing of remote sensing data from space born instruments (imager, radar, sounder)
  • Definition, implementation and use of simulations models to generate representative data for the analysis of these algorithms, covering the scene of observation, the instrument signal path and the relevant satellite characteristics
  • Establishment of specifications and verification plans for end-to-end simulators supporting performance assessments and the operational processing of satellite remote sensing data
  • Acquisition of in-depth understanding and knowledge of the measurement principles of space-born remote sensing instruments and the related instrument and satellite induced measurement distortions as well as the corresponding corrective data processing approaches
  • Establishment of good working relationships to Space System projects and the international scientific and engineering community
  • Understanding customer's usage of the different remote sensing data products and the resulting needs on the data content, quality and reliability
