In order to support our Team in the area of unmanned aircraft (UAV), Airbus Defence and Space is looking for a

System Engineer "Flight Management Systems" (d/f/m)

Your location

Located about an hour’s drive north of Munich, Manching is an up-and-coming market town that offers a wide range of leisure and cultural activities. Here, you can enjoy the quality of life in the countryside while the pleasures of near-by cities are still within easy reach.

Your tasks and responsibilities

  • Define Flight Management Systems architecture and interfaces

  • Develop and adapt novel AI and Machine Learning algorithms for flight planning, flight guidance and control tasks.

  • Support technology maturation up to flight demonstrations.

  • Document work for internal communication and external presentation at conferences.

  • Actively search for uses cases and new applications of the developed technology within the team and company.

The role has a large number of interfaces to e.g. other aircraft system teams, laboratory and flight test teams, aircraft programs & support teams. This requires ability to work as part of large transnational teams, flexibility, technical know-how, ability to persuade & influence.

Desired skills and qualifications

  • A degree in Aerospace Engineering or similar

  • Experience with Machine Learning used for planning/guidance/control of dynamical systems

  • Systems-oriented thinking

  • Strong coding skills in Python (Numpy, Torch, Tensorflow), Linux (vim, bash). (C/C++/Fortran would be a benefit)

  • Can-do attitude

  • Excitement & curiosity & openness to new technologies and their applications

  • Experience with development in low and mid-TRLs

  • High degree of motivation and willingness to work in an international team

  • Language skills: English
