A Day in the Life

As a Staff Software Engineer on the Edge Team, your day will involve a mix of designing, coding, and collaborating with other teams. You might start by architecting new features for our API gateway, such as plugin-driven routing mechanisms or smart cache policies. You'll then write high-quality code to implement these features, ensuring they are scalable and maintainable. Another part of your day could be spent building libraries and pipelines for rate limits, WAF/filter rules, and bot detection, embedding security directly into our edge stack. You’ll also create self-service tooling, like CLI plugins and lightweight frameworks, to enable other teams to easily register APIs, enforce policies, and preview traffic insights. A significant portion of your time will be devoted to analyzing metrics, pinpointing latency or fail-over gaps, and delivering code-level optimizations to ensure every request is fast and flawless.
