A Day in the Life

As a Security Guard - Unarmed Patrol, your day will be dynamic and engaging. You'll start by receiving a briefing from the outgoing shift, learning about any incidents or areas of concern. Your primary task will be conducting regular foot and/or vehicle patrols of campus buildings, parking areas, residence hall exteriors, and athletic and common areas. You'll be vigilant, observing and reporting any suspicious activity or safety hazards. You'll interact with students, faculty, and visitors, providing directions, answering questions, and offering assistance. You'll also monitor access points, ensuring that doors and gates are secure and reporting any maintenance issues. Throughout your shift, you'll meticulously document your observations and activities in written reports and electronic logs. If an incident occurs, you'll respond calmly and professionally, assisting with de-escalation, reporting concerns, and coordinating with campus contacts and/or public responders as directed. Your goal is to maintain a safe and secure environment for everyone on campus.
