Job Description

Lead a team dedicated to building and operating AWS Japan's safest, most secure, and highly available cloud infrastructure. You'll develop great people while maintaining the highest standards of operational excellence within established frameworks.Our organization -AWS data centers are the heart of our Cloud, powering applications and websites worldwide. Operating 24/7, these critical facilities house advanced servers, network devices and other systems. Our Data Center team manages and operates these facilities, supporting AWS's innovative suite of Cloud Computing services and building the foundation of the digital world.We strive to deliver the world’s highest quality data center services, for our customers to innovate on the cloud affordably and at scale, with uninterrupted availability, seamless scaling, and physical security for AWS customers.Key job responsibilitiesLeadership & Execution• Lead and develop a team of 8-12 data center technicians • Drive operational excellence through established frameworks • Identify and mitigate risks with clear escalation paths • Document and maintain standard operating procedures • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholdersSafety, Security & Availability • Create and maintain safe work environment • Drive understanding and adherence to technical standards• Ensure immediate remediation when standards aren't met • Lead emergency response preparation and execution • Manage proper escalation processes • Deliver capacity aligned with customer needsPeople Development & Process Improvement • Develop professional data center skills across team • Executing performance evaluations• Provide coaching and managing performance• Establish clear career paths and promotion opportunities• Lead innovations to reduce costs and risks • Drive sharing of operational improvements • Implement process standardization and optimizationA day in the lifeYour primary focus is leading a data center team that maintains critical infrastructure for cloud services. Morning starts with safety-focused team standups and site walks to connect with your technicians. You'll spend time mentoring team members, reviewing operational metrics, and collaborating with facilities, engineering, and vendor teams to ensure smooth operations. Beyond routine activities, you'll tackle interesting technical challenges - from capacity planning to emergency response. You might find yourself brainstorming process improvements with your team, participating in cross-site initiatives, or working with stakeholders to implement new technologies. Each day offers unique opportunities to develop your people while maintaining world-class infrastructure operations.About the teamThe Infrastructure Operations team handles the various physical layers for AWS data centers, including the infrastructure and on-site operations. We are a team of professionals and engineers, actively working in positions ranging from the installation, troubleshooting and maintenance of servers and network equipment, to facility operations, managing power and air-conditioning systems, to risk management, project management, security, logistics and inventory control. We are the team who keeps the data centers up and running 24/7, the backbone of AWS
