Job Description

Project Kuiper is an initiative to increase global broadband access through a constellation of 3,236 satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO). Its mission is to bring fast, affordable broadband to unserved and underserved communities around the world. Project Kuiper will help close the digital divide by delivering fast, affordable broadband to a wide range of customers, including consumers, businesses, government agencies, and other organizations operating in places without reliable connectivity. Export Control Requirement: Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.We're looking for a Mechanical Engineer with a background in mechanical design of spacecraft components, precision testing equipment, tooling and fixtures. The role is within the propulsion team, and the ideal candidate has experience in mechanical spacecraft hardware from conception through flight qualification, with understanding of materials and processes, GD&T, and design to dynamic and thermal requirements. Favorable consideration given for experience developing components, assemblies, and mechanisms for operation in high-vacuum environments. Propulsion background is desired but not required, and the position offers opportunity for a strong candidate to join an exciting project in the field of spacecraft electric propulsion. This is a hands-on role for a highly collaborative individual that combines superb technical, and analytical capabilities to transition theoretical guidance and requirements into performant hardware optimized to be lightweight, cost effective and manufacturability. Key job responsibilities* Mechanical design of propulsion subsystem, sub-systems and test-fixtures.* Collaborating with the propulsion team to deliver low-mass and low-cost designs optimized for manufacturability in volume.* Generate detailed designs and conduct/enable thermal modelling along with static, dynamic and modal structural analysis as needed.* Support integration of designs into propulsion performance models.* Tolerance analyses and verification of critical clearances for sub-system components.* Preparation and documentation of materials for design review gates.* Support and/or lead root cause and corrective action plans in result of manufacturing non-conformances. * Contribute to the propulsion system development and maturation to high volume manufacturing by generating and maintaining procedures including: part/ component acceptance tests, assembly procedures and, qualification test plans.

  • Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $105,600/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market.
