Our work fuels intuitive information experiences across some of Apple's most iconic products, including Siri, Spotlight, Safari, Messages, Lookup, and more. We are seeking a Senior Machine Learning Engineer with a passion for applying machine learning and generative AI to create intelligent, personal search solutions for Apple products. You will research and develop novel approaches in query understanding, ranking, and ML modeling—building the technology that enables seamless and delightful search and assistant experiences across Apple products. This role offers the opportunity to research and develop personalized text, image, and multimodal retrieval and ranking models, while driving improvements and scalable evaluations that impact millions of Apple users and advance the broader AIML community.

Required Qualifications
- 4+ years of experience in Machine Learning, NLP/CV, and applying these techniques at scale (experience, 4 years)
- Proficiency in software engineering with mainstream programming languages such as Python, Go, or C/C++ (experience)

- Bachelor in Computer Science with relevant industry experience (experience)
Preferred Qualifications
- * Deep expertise in applying and evaluating deep learning models and large language models (LLMs) (experience)
- Extensive experience building production-quality systems in search, recommendation, or personal assistant domains (experience)
- Hands-on proficiency with modern ML frameworks such as PyTorch, JAX, TensorFlow, or XGBoost (experience)
- Proven ability to rapidly prototype solutions and perform critical analysis (experience)
- Strong background in personalization and data-driven decision making (experience)
- Advanced degree (Master’s or Ph.D.) in Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience (experience)
Responsibilities
- This role offers the opportunity to research and develop personalized text, image, and multimodal retrieval and ranking models, while driving improvements and scalable evaluations that impact millions of Apple users and advance the broader AIML community.
- Research, design, implement, and evaluate algorithms and models to advance personalized query understanding, user intent resolution, retrieval, and ranking
- Apply state-of-the-art NLP, CV, deep learning, and GenAI/LLM techniques to return grounded, contextually relevant responses
- Analyze loss patterns in current search and assistant stacks, and develop insights, algorithms, and techniques to close quality gaps and improve key product metrics
- Define and drive long-term technical vision, proposing clear roadmaps and setting measurable objectives for the team
- Collaborate with cross-functional partners to define product requirements and prioritize ranking criteria that maximize user satisfaction
- Establish robust evaluation metrics and continuously enhance model performance through innovative ML approaches
