Job Description

The Industrial Design Color Team is seeking a highly organized Archivist/Inventory Administrator to manage and streamline our historical program materials collection. This role involves reviewing accumulated program materials, consulting with team members to determine what to retain or dispose of, and developing a comprehensive cataloging system for retained materials. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, flexible, and able to work autonomously while creating clear labeling and categorization standards that make our archives accessible and well-documented. This position requires exceptional organizational skills, strong communication abilities for stakeholder consultation, and a systematic approach to bringing order to complex collections.

Required Qualifications

  • Emphasis on product identification systems (model numbers, part numbers, etc.) (experience)
  • Thorough knowledge of the history and evolution of Apple’s culture and products (experience)
  • Ability to assess archiving and support needs and develop effective solutions from the ground up (experience)
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects simultaneously over long periods of time, prioritize and re-prioritize projects in response to changing needs of the Studio (experience)
  • Ability to research background information when not provided, for archived materials (experience)
  • Knowledge of Excel/Numbers, Illustrator, Photos, and FileMaker (experience)

Responsibilities

  • This role involves reviewing accumulated program materials, consulting with team members to determine what to retain or dispose of, and developing a comprehensive cataloging system for retained materials. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, flexible, and able to work autonomously while creating clear labeling and categorization standards that make our archives accessible and well-documented. This position requires exceptional organizational skills, strong communication abilities for stakeholder consultation, and a systematic approach to bringing order to complex collections.
  • Design physical archive systems, including space requirements analysis, space layout, and storage hardware
  • Design archiving processes, including scope of materials and quantities to be archived, receiving and retrieval procedures, categorization systems, standardized descriptive terminology, and specialized systems for non-traditional media
  • Archive materials from multiple functional organizations (product development, shipping product, historical reference materials, awards, library materials, third-party products, and digital assets)
  • Monitor Apple product launches, order released product samples, archive into database, maintain inventory and backfill as needed, and obtain historical products not in Archive
  • Convert physical media to digital format as needed, working with internal staff and third-party vendors (photography, print, video, artwork including art, drawings, sketches)
  • Provide support to Design Studio admin staff on design competitions, operational equipment and supplies, and material transport
