We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer experienced in design, construction and operations of Critical Facilities to join our Data Center Engineering team of, thinkers and doers, committed to delivering excellence for our next generation of data centers. This is a fast-moving, dynamic environment where flexibility, teamwork and resourcefulness are key attributes needed for success. As a key part of the Data Center Operations team, you will lead design and construction administration on large scale projects as Apple’s Owners Representative for the Mechanical Engineer team as a domain expert.

Required Qualifications

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or a related field or equivalent job-related experience (experience)
  • 5+ years experience with large mechanical cooling systems (experience, 5 years)
  • Ability to travel (experience)

Preferred Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in Mission Critical facilities design, construction and/or operations (experience, 8 years)
  • 2+ years of operational experience as a mechanical engineer data center domain expert (experience, 2 years)
  • Model system performance, efficiency and reliability to prescribe improvement opportunities (experience)
  • Experience with complex system upgrade projects or refreshes to operating facility and site (experience)
  • Ability to Identify and resolve project issues, problems and deficiencies early and directly (experience)
  • Pragmatic and intuitive system design skills to reduce operational complexity and risks (experience)
  • Complex Level 5 integrated systems test (IST) and commissioning experience (experience)
  • Building Automation Systems (BAS) sequence of operations (SOO) development and tuning (experience)
  • Deep dive on system and component failure, root-cause analysis (RCA’s) and life expectancy (experience)

Responsibilities

  • As a key part of the Data Center Operations team, you will lead design and construction administration on large scale projects as Apple’s Owners Representative for the Mechanical Engineer team as a domain expert.
  • Lead projects through concept, schematic, design development, construction documents, construction administration, commissioning, and final close-out documents as technical lead for Mechanical Engineering team on new data center builds, refreshes, upgrades and renovations.
  • Collaborating with multiple internal partners, customers and external project partners to drive delivery of data centers and infrastructure projects on time, within budget while meeting the highest quality, performance, reliability, and sustainability requirements.
  • Hold architects, EoR, construction management, contractors, vendors and commissioning agents accountable on contract results and performance providing actionable feedback, directives and comments.
  • Participate in factory tests, onsite testing, commissioning and other quality checks throughout the project.
  • Proactively identifying, documenting, refining and incorporating lessons learned to improve operability, mitigate risks, and/or optimize project schedule, budget and build quality.
  • Provide ongoing engineering support for smooth transition to production and operations teams.
