Job Description

The Apple Cloud Engineering team is looking for an exceptional software engineer to create highly performant and energy efficient systems that will power the next generation of data centers. We’re looking for an engineer who can build and use models of our Data Centers to inform critical architectural decisions, who can write code for power and thermal management systems, and who can effectively lead and participate in cross-functional requirements engineering efforts during early architecture phases of development. If you are interested in working at the intersection of hardware and software for large scale, high visibility, and high impact projects, then this role will be exciting for you! Work cross-functionally with architecture, platform design, SOC architects, and software teams to develop and integrate best in class hardware, software and services. This role will be responsible for architecting, developing, and on-boarding other engineers to maintain system software that powers next generation of data centers. As a member of the team, participate in all stages of software development, from new feature design and implementation, to maintenance and bug fixing of released code. Build models for data center power and thermal systems that can inform critical architectural decisions. Use those models to ensure system functionality, verify requirements, understand failure modes, and ensure operation within defined limits.

Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years of industry experience as a system software developer. (experience, 7 years)
  • Bachelors or Masters in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience. (experience)
  • Experience with tools used in systems dynamics or systems engineering fields such as JMP, Matlab, Simulink, Cameo, or equivalent. (experience)
  • Expertise in C, C++, Objective-C, or Swift. (experience)
  • Strong understanding of OS architecture and systems programming fundamentals. (experience)
  • Proficient at debugging complex interdisciplinary systems. (experience)
  • Experience with requirements engineering. (experience)
  • Excellent communication skills. (experience)
  • Creative, collaborative, and product-focused. (experience)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Formal training in systems engineering. (experience)
  • Strong understanding of infrastructure and platform system reliability calculations and fault domains. (experience)
  • Experience with distributed systems including leader election. (experience)
  • Data center power systems development experience. (experience)
  • Control systems development including transfer function development experience. (experience)
  • Experience with hardware deployment models. (experience)
  • Experience working with factory processes and system bring-up. (experience)
  • Experience in calculating TCO. (experience)
  • Experience with Apple development tools. (experience)
  • Experience presenting architectural concepts and designs to executives. (experience)
  • Passion for software architecture, APIs and high performance extensible software. (experience)
  • Passion for hardware and maximizing its efficiency, performance, and overall utility through thoughtful software architecture. (experience)
