Wireless Firmware Test Engineer

Job Description

The Wireless Connectivity Silicon team seeks an experienced Lead Wireless Firmware Test Engineer to drive quality strategy and lead a team of QA engineers ensuring excellence of Apple’s homegrown WIFI/BT N1 chip and beyond for Apple products. You will establish testing frameworks, mentor team members, and spearhead automation initiatives while managing test coverage across multiple projects. You will lead and mentor a QA engineering team, providing technical guidance and performance management. Establish testing priorities and resource allocation based on business impact and risk assessment. Partner with FW, Radio, MAC, and Systems engineering leadership to develop comprehensive test strategies. Oversee development of white box FW test cases and automation frameworks. Direct creation of pre-silicon and post-silicon reference board test setups. Establish quality metrics and KPIs to measure testing effectiveness. Review and approve test plans, reports, and defect analyses. Serve as quality advocate in cross-functional meetings, communicating test status and risks. Guide team in debugging complex issues and provide technical escalation support.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors +10 years of relevant industry experience. (experience, 10 years)
  • WIFI or Bluetooth experience. (experience)
  • Previous experience as a lead or manager. (experience)
  • Proven Understanding of Python. (experience)
  • Strong wireless/PHY/radio fundamentals. (experience)

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10+ years of proven experience as a Silicon firmware test engineer. (experience, 10 years)
  • Experience in FW/SW white box testing, including test plan design, implementation, documentation, and maintenance. (experience)
  • Strong problem-solving and debugging skills: analyze and investigate test failures, errors, build issues, and be able to drive issues to completion accurately. (experience)

Responsibilities

  • You will lead and mentor a QA engineering team, providing technical guidance and performance management. Establish testing priorities and resource allocation based on business impact and risk assessment. Partner with FW, Radio, MAC, and Systems engineering leadership to develop comprehensive test strategies. Oversee development of white box FW test cases and automation frameworks. Direct creation of pre-silicon and post-silicon reference board test setups. Establish quality metrics and KPIs to measure testing effectiveness. Review and approve test plans, reports, and defect analyses. Serve as quality advocate in cross-functional meetings, communicating test status and risks. Guide team in debugging complex issues and provide technical escalation support.
  • Establish robust FW test process and methodology to help drive efficient and high quality test of wireless FW: feature functionality, stability and performance.
  • Drive cross- functional communication, project/schedule planning, dependency and risk management.
  • Develop test infrastructure, and continuous integration flow for pre-silicon development and post-silicon validation, system integration and debug, including pre-check in, nightly/weekly/release regression test.
  • Work on test plan, manual and automatic test setup/scripts, publish test reports, collect test logs, first screen of test failure/debug.
  • Build pre-Silicon, post-silicon reference board test setups, as well as production specific test setups.
  • Design and Develop innovative ideas that tackle automation and execution problems.
  • Support development in debugging and reproducing issues, work with system QA on bug reproduce, log/statistic collection, run debug test with debug FW build, etc.
  • Create test result dashboard, support bug triage meetings.
