Job Description

Job Description:

This position requires office presence of a minimum of 3 days per week and is only located in the location(s) posted.  No relocation is offered.

AT&T Global Public Sector is a trusted provider of secure, IP enabled, cloud-based, network solutions and professional services to the Federal Government.   We are dedicated to recruiting, developing and empowering a diverse, high-performing workforce that is passionate about what they do, committed to our shared values and dedicated to our customers’ mission.

The AT&T Federal Defense business segment directly supports the Department of Defense (DoD), Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and the Defense Industrial Base (DIB), in alignment with the administration’s current top priorities of national security, technology modernization, and resilient critical infrastructure. As these missions grow in complexity and scale, our ability to deliver operational excellence and strategic innovation remains crucial.

The Principal Program/Project Manager serves as a pivotal organizational leader supporting the executive leadership of AT&T’s DHS business segment. This role is specifically designed to bridge operational gaps, provide comprehensive organizational oversight, escalation management, and administrative coordination. The Principal Program/Project Manager will own all aspects of program management, administrative, and escalations activities, ensuring senior leaders are empowered to focus on growth, innovation, and long-term strategic partnerships. The responsibilities taken on by this individual will provide leaders with the capacity to pursue new business, drive customer satisfaction, and maintain AT&T’s leadership position in the federal and defense markets—while reducing the risk of costly compliance failures and missed deliverables.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the principal organizational and operational extension of the business segment leader(s), managing daily operations and proactively escalating and resolving issues to ensure program success and compliance.
  • Own all aspects of organizational oversight, operational cadence, and risk management across federal defense programs, ensuring deliverables, processes, and stakeholder communications are managed with precision.
  • Oversee the health of DHS programs, tracking milestones, deliverables, and key performance indicators to ensure full alignment with federal contract requirements, customer regulations, and AT&T internal standards.
  • Act as the central point of coordination for cross-functional teams, external partners, and federal stakeholders, driving clarity, accountability, and timely resolution of challenges.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate operational risks, managing escalations efficiently to maintain program momentum and ensure compliance with regulatory and contractual obligations.
  • Develop and deliver high-quality executive-level briefings, status reports, and performance dashboards, providing actionable insights to enable strategic decision-making by executive leadership.
  • Continuously review and improve operational processes, seeking out opportunities to increase efficiency, drive cost savings, and elevate customer satisfaction.
  • Enable senior leaders to dedicate more time and energy to strategic initiatives, innovation, and partnership development by expertly managing the operational workload and supporting the execution of both current and future business strategies.

Required Qualifications:

Skills/Expertise

  • Deep understanding of federal mission requirements, procurement processes, and compliance standards (with specific familiarity with the DHS or Defense environments, including NIST, DFARS, and CMMC).
  • Exceptional organizational, analytical, and executive communication skills, with the ability to distill complex information into clear, actionable recommendations.
  • Proven success managing large-scale, multi-stakeholder projects within federal, public sector, or defense environments, where operational rigor and compliance are paramount.
  • Advanced capability in risk assessment, issue escalation, and operational problem solving, supporting a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Strong familiarity with federal contract management, regulatory compliance, and performance reporting best practices to ensure operational excellence.

Prior Experience:

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in federal or defense program/project management, ideally supporting DHS clients directly.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting executive-level leaders in fast-paced, high-impact, and highly regulated settings.
  • PMP or equivalent project management certification required (or strongly preferred).

Location:

  • Based in Chantilly, VA, with periodic travel required to customer sites, partner locations, and AT&T offices as business needs dictate.

Desired Qualifications:
