Overall Purpose: Conduct product, user research, and analysis to inform and improve the design and functionality of products and services, ensuring they meet user needs and enhance overall user experience. 
 

Key Roles and Responsibilities: Typical tasks may include, but are not limited to, the following: 
 

Strategic Research Planning and Execution: Develop and implement comprehensive research plans and methodologies to gather user insights that inform high-level design and product decisions across the organization. Knowledge and experience with applied qualitative and quantitative research methods including generative, formative, and evaluative methods. Example methods include contextual inquiry, cognitive walkthroughs, ethnographic research, usability testing, card sorting, experimental design, A/B Testing, parametric/non-parametric statistical tests, and persona/archetype development. Knowledge and/or experience in data analytics and machine learning are a plus!  

 

Advanced Data Analysis and Strategic Reporting: Analyze and interpret complex research data to identify patterns, trends, and actionable insights. Compile findings into strategic reports and presentations, effectively communicating insights and recommendations to senior stakeholders. 

 

Cross-Functional Collaboration and Influence: Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including designers, product managers, and developers, to integrate user research findings into the design and development process. Influence strategic decision-making through research insights and perspectives. 

 

Development of User Personas and Research Artifacts: Create detailed user personas and journey maps based on comprehensive research data. Produce research artifacts such as insight briefs, journey maps, affinity diagrams, and usability reports to support strategic design decisions. 

 

Continuous Improvement, Innovation, and Advocacy: Continuously iterate on research methods and processes to ensure they remain effective and innovative. Maintain a repository of research findings, stay current with the latest UX research methodologies, tools, and industry trends, and champion user-centered design principles and methodologies, ensuring ethical and effective research practices. 

Critical Thinker with a Product Mindset: You’re great at wrangling complex problems and finding clarity and simplicity. You think strategically about any design challenge and seek to create holistic, compelling products that serve the end user.  

Communication Skills: You have excellent communication, project management, and organizational skills. You’re able to tell compelling stories about your work to partners and team members. 

 

Job Contribution: An expert in their field, applying broad business knowledge and strategic insight surrounding emerging trends and technologies to solve complex problems and drive organizational results. Leads critical, high-impact projects and designs/implements innovative business strategies. Works with minimal oversight, frequently consulting senior leadership and influencing executive decisions. Serves as a mentor and assists others with challenging issues and maintains a part of our craft.

Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree (BS/BA) desired. 7+ years of related experience. Certification is required in some areas. Ideal candidate has an MS or PhD in a human behavior-related field (e.g., Human-Computer Interaction, Human Factors, Cognitive Psychology, Sociology, Anthropology, Information Science, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics) or equivalent experience.

Our Principal UX Researcher earns between $158,200 - $237,400 USD Annual. Not to mention all the other amazing rewards that working at AT&T offers. Individual starting salary within this range may depend on geography, experience, expertise, and education/training.
