About the Role

Avery Dennison Smartrac is seeking a Lab Engineer to join our R&D team in Tampere, Finland, focusing on RFID and advanced wireless technologies. The Lab Engineer will play a critical role in supporting daily laboratory operations, including prototype preparation, RF performance testing, and data evaluation. This role is ideal for a motivated engineer with strong hands-on skills in RF and communications technologies, who enjoys working in a fast-paced, multicultural environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prototype & Sample Preparation: Assist in the design, assembly, and preparation of RFID prototypes and product samples (UHF, NFC, and emerging technologies).
     

  • RF Testing & Evaluation: Conduct RF performance measurements and evaluations of RFID tags as per RFID standards by using state-of-the-art lab equipment. Doing product reliability and design validation tests for RFID products.
     

  • Data Analysis & Reporting: Analyze measurement data, document results, and prepare professional technical reports for internal and external stakeholders.
     

  • Lab Ownership & Management: Maintain laboratory equipment and environment, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations. Responsible for device ownership documentation and calibration records. Supporting a positive culture of safety to ensure the laboratory meets all health and safety requirements
     

  • Documentation: Keep detailed records of procedures, equipment usage, and testing results in line with company standards.
     

  • Collaboration: Work closely with R&D product designers, Product Management, and other cross-functional team members to support ongoing R&D projects.
     

  • Adaptability: Perform routine and repetitive tasks with attention to detail while remaining flexible to urgent project needs. Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to quickly identify issues, analyze root causes, and implement effective solutions under pressure.

Qualifications

  • Education: Degree in Engineering, preferably in Electrical, Electronics, or RF-related fields.
     

  • Experience: Relevant hands-on experience in laboratory work, preferably with RFID (UHF/NFC), antennas, or RF testing technologies and measurement systems.  1 year of job experience in a relevant field.
     

  • Skills & Traits:

    • Strong practical skills in RF measurements and data handling.

    • Ability to write prompt and readable testing reports.

    • Technical interest in machines and equipment used in laboratory.

    • Proactive, approachable, and a strong team player with an approachable and can-do attitude.

    • Flexible, agile, and able to adapt to changing project requirements.

    • Capable of managing tasks independently with professional guidance and training available.

    • Excellent communication skills with good written and spoken English.
