Senior Underwriter Marine, Benelux

A rare and exciting position is now available in our Marine team for a Senior Underwriter to support and grow the Marine insurance product in the Benelux region.

In partnership with our experienced underwriting team you will be able to deploy your technical expertise for the function and region. Your responsibilities will involve underwriting business in line with the business plan; setup (international) insurance programs in collaboration with middle office; monitoring exposure within agreed limits; monitoring premium income to ensure it remains within agreed limits; maintaining awareness of all claims advised; supporting and providing input on settlement of claims advised; building and maintaining relationships with brokers and clients; supporting the design and structure of risks; identifying and driving new product development opportunities.

What you’ll be doing

What will your essential responsibilities include?

• Day to day handling of the portfolio with the aim to deliver the highest level of response time and service quality towards clients and brokers;
• Build and maintain relationship with underwriters, risk consultants, other APAC Europe marine offices and middle office team;
• Review results of the cargo, landbased equipment and freight forwarders liability books of business and prepare renewal terms;
• Follow up on facilities (quality of bordereaux);
• Negotiate with producers to achieve profit objectives;
• Grow your expertise with the products, services and targeted markets;
• Underwrite, manage and service the existing portfolio and produce new business;
• Work with other senior underwriters on the underwriting of complex accounts;
• Co-Responsible for the governance and monitoring of local synergies and boundaries;

You will report to the Underwriting Manager Specialty, Benelux.

What you’ll bring

We’re looking for someone who has these abilities and skills:

• Bachelor’s Degree preferred and equivalent experience, policy development and broker management;
• Good knowledge of the insurance market and extensive experience in marine underwriting and sales experience, with recognized knowledge and abilities overall with marine insurance.
• Good negotiation skills;
• Ability to respond to a changing environment with flexibility and innovation;
• Excellent in Dutch; good knowledge of English language;
• Ability to work in a team environment.
