BD is seeking a passionate and results-driven professional to join our global Operational Excellence (OPEX) community. About the Role
Reporting to the Associate Director, Global BD Excellence, the Global BD Excellence Senior Manager – Factory Flow will lead initiatives that foster a culture of operational and customer excellence. You will be instrumental in deploying the BD Excellence program, championing Continuous Improvement (CI), and implementing sustainable performance enhancements across quality, delivery, cost, and safety.

Job Description

Main Responsibilities:

  • Mentor factory teams on BD Excellence, focusing on external and internal benchmarking. Develop and guide a zero loss approach in critical areas to optimize quality, delivery, and cost while enhancing safety.
  • Develop capability through components and component teams to establish the fundamentals of excellence in safety, quality, and reliability. Guide sites to ensure resources and time are passionate about priorities.
  • Manage the implementation of BD Excellence components. Enhance BD Excellence capability development by exploring more advanced elements of component methodologies. Attain continuous improvement objectives through aligning resources across functions towards common goals.
  • Expand BD Excellence capability to assist sites in implementing a multi-year cost-to-win (CtW) strategy. Concentrate on fostering capability that boosts problem-solving, heightens loss awareness, and empowers teams to efficiently and sustainably eliminate factory-loss.
  • Mentor associates in continuous improvement methodologies within manufacturing areas, with a focus on Lean Workplace and Factory Flow components.
  • Assist the plant BD Excellence Manager, BD Excellence Engineer, Logistics Engineer, and Factory Flow/Lean Workplace component Leader in outlining the Factory Flow and Lean Workplace Strategy, monitoring critical metrics, and achieving efficiencies in Internal Logistics and Labor Efficiency framework.
  • Outline the Roadmap for the Lean Workplace and Factory Flow components.
  • Facilitate and/or lead specific breakthrough Kaizen events and/or bootcamps to enable targeted performance improvement and solution realization.
  • Conduct on-site mentoring and assessments of Kaizen activities. Develop governance to follow up on project and saving status.
  • Support site leadership teams in crafting a strategic vision and ensuring alignment through cascading critical metrics top down and bottom up.
  • Support Lean Flow centers-of-excellence (COEs). Assist in developing standards and guidelines. Enhance methodologies for various manufacturing technologies. Develop and implement standard processes, drive the development and adoption of procedures. Ensure deploying sites establish and maintain appropriate critical metrics, and promote visibility of global component impact. Support maturity assessment programs across multiple business units.
  • Collaborate with BD Excellence Business Units and other functional departments (GIE and TGS) to develop projects, solutions, and procedures.
  • Proactively lead multiple teams and projects to the desired results. Prioritize cost savings projects and manage them to savings and timeline completion.
  • Work together to devise and implement a strategic plan for ongoing improvement in Factory Flow (Internal Logistics) and Lean Workplace.
  • Serve as a champion to overcome barriers by addressing issues promptly. Challenge the status quo in search of opportunities that help the business provide efficient solutions to customers.

Preferred Profile:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Previous experience in implementing, and solid understanding of Lean and Six Sigma business systems. Six sigma black belt certification preferred.
  • Demonstrated passion for safety, customer-centricity, and operational excellence
  • At least 7 years of experience in manufacturing required. Leadership background in a plant setting is desirable.
  • Excellent understanding of the interaction between operational excellence and customer service
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with people at all levels
  • Strong track record in project or program management
  • Previous involvement in a diverse setting across multiple locations and varying cultural backgrounds
  • Business insight and ability to demonstrate the connection between projects and desired business outcomes
  • A minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience managing a production system. Possess certification or acknowledgment as a Production System professional.
  • Proficiency in BD Excellence Factory Flow and Lean Workplace: Competence in time study techniques (including 3M and Golden Zone); Expertise in Mizusumashi and Internal Logistic Flows; Implementation experience in Supermarket systems; Understanding of Call off systems; Skilled in Kanban Methodology, 5S, and 5T.
  • Expertise in problem-solving and experience in training and mentoring others.
  • Flexible and able to travel. Encouraged travel up to 70%
  • Proficient in English, Spanish is a plus.
