Job Description

About this role

To support managing Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) programs for BlackRock offices in India. The goal is to maintain a safe, healthy, and balanced work environment following BlackRock’s global standards, local laws, and guidelines. This role will partner with workplace experience, facility management, security, HR, and business units to support HSE Manager in driving a strong safety culture and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement the India HSE plan in line with BlackRock’s global policies and local statutory requirements leading hazard identification, risk assessments, and the development of risk mitigation measures across BlackRock’s India offices.

  • Maintain and update the HSE risk register; ensure effective controls are in place for key risks (fire safety, ergonomic risks, contractor safety, etc.).

  • Identify hazards, unsafe conditions, or non-conformities; ensure prompt corrective and preventive actions are implemented.

  • Support and ensure smooth implementation of global programs like Ergonomics, incident reporting & management, event review, chemical management, food safety etc. locally.

  • Ensure compliance with Indian health, safety, and environmental laws (e.g., Factories Act, Building Safety Codes, Fire Safety Rules, Environmental Regulations).

  • Be the subject matter expert on everyday HSE matters. Offer mentorship to site leaders and employees. Attend project meetings and notify the HSE manager in a timely manner if a blocking issue happens.

  • Monitor changes in legislation and support necessary updates to HSE practices in

  • Assist in workplace incident investigations, ensuring thorough documentation and follow-up actions. Train local teams on the timely reporting of incidents using the HSE portal, promoting awareness and compliance with reporting standards.

  • Facilitate prompt Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) reviews of registered events, and provide clear guidelines to teams regarding event management procedures.

  • Support and advise employees on first-level ergonomic requests, offering guidelines and recommendations to promote workplace health and safety.

  • Support management of emergency preparedness, including evacuation plans, fire drills, and business continuity alignment for HSE while ensuring the adequacy of fire safety systems, evacuation procedures, assembly points, and emergency equipment (e.g., fire extinguishers, alarms, AEDs).

  • Conduct regular HSE inspections, walk-throughs and internal audits for local sites; track and ensure timely close out of corrective actions.

  • Prepare and present HSE performance reports, including incident statistics, near misses, and improvement initiatives to HSE manager.

  • Promote a culture of safety and well-being by providing support for awareness programs, campaigns, and regular communication.

  • Deliver or coordinate safety training (e.g., fire safety, first aid, AED / CPR, ergonomics).

  • Support mental health, wellness, and environmental sustainability initiatives in partnership with HR and sustainability teams.

  • Ensure that all vendors, contractors, and service providers on-site/supporting construction or project activities align with BlackRock’s HSE standards.

  • Ensure local permit-to-work systems and contractor HSE inductions & briefing/visitor safety program is in place

  • Support and coordinate Health center activities as & when HSE support is required.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in HSE, Industrial Safety, Engineering, Environmental Science, Occupational Health, or related field.

  • NEBOSH International General Certificate / Diploma, ISO 45001/14001 Lead Auditor, or equivalent certification.

  • 1-4 years of HSE experience, preferably in corporate office, IT park, or financial services environments.

  • Strong knowledge of Indian HSE laws and global safety standards.

  • Experience managing corporate multi-site or high-rise office operations is preferred.
