Boeing Commercial Airplanes is seeking to provide students of Boeing Pre-Employment Training (BPET) certified courses with the opportunity to join our 787 production teams working as an Assembly Systems Mechanic in North Charleston, South Carolina on a variable shift. Your BPET Instructor Endorsement Form will outline the specific roles for which your course qualifies you for a direct offer of employment. Following your application, a Boeing recruiter will reach out to discuss these roles and ensure a smooth transition into your new role.

This role offers an exciting opportunity within a dynamic manufacturing assembly environment. Team members will leverage their prior experience, and the knowledge gained from training and certifications to complete daily assigned tasks effectively.  Individuals will be responsible for identifying their work locations on advanced airplanes, parts, and tooling by interpreting intricate drawings to accurately complete detailed work instructions. Attention to detail and procedure compliance is critical to identify all necessary hand tools, parts, and equipment required to ensure defect-free work. Eligibility:

This position is exclusively open to students who have completed Boeing Pre-Employment Training (BPET) certified courses.

Primary Responsibilities:   

  • Must have the ability to complete the New Hire Training Cycle Flow to obtain and maintain all required certifications.

  • Use a computer in a production environment.

  • Look up/read/comprehend technical work instructions, drawings and/or specifications.

  • Install various parts and assemblies such as landing gear, aircraft control surfaces, exterior panels, carpets, blankets, roller trays/ball mats, stow bins, sidewalls, ceiling panels, lavatories, galleys, doors, and seats.

  • Install various aircraft system components such as tubing, valves, regulators, actuators, compressors, and ducts.

  • Wear appropriate protective clothing/equipment determined by the task you are performing.

  • Operate mechanical lifts of various types (e.g. ladders, tiger and snorkel lifts).

  • Use various hand tools and diagnostic equipment such as screwdrivers, ratchets, power screwdriver multi meters, continuity testers.

  • Apply chemical solvents, sealants, coatings, primers, adhesives, paints and special finishes.

  • Inspect your work quality and check for FOD (Foreign Object Debris).

  • Climbing/balancing (stairs, ladders, poles, scaffolding, inclined surfaces), Crawling, Crouching (squatting).

  • Work around energized sources (electrical equipment and hazards/shock, e.g. circuit breakers and wiring) and exposure to constant noise.

  • Finger manipulation (keyboarding, other).

  • Reading from a computer screen, printed drawings or documents.

  • Ability to adhere to high standards of Safety and Compliance to regulation

  • Carrying/Lifting up to 10-35 pounds

  • Flexion/Extension (head bent down, head bent back), Handling, Kneeling, Bending at the waist, Reaching (overhead), Rotation of head/neck, Standing, Twisting at the waist and walking.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position must meet export control compliance requirements. To meet export control compliance requirements, a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.15 is required. “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):

  • Be a student or recent graduate of a Boeing Pre-Employment Training course that is certified for the BPET Assembly Systems Mechanic role.

Physical demands and requirements:

  • Ability to work a variable shift.

  • Ability to meet physical demands of the role such as: flexion/extension (head bent down, head bent back), handling, kneeling, bending at the waist, reaching (overhead), rotation of head/neck, standing, twisting at the waist and walking, climbing/balancing (stairs, ladders, poles, scaffolding, inclined surfaces), crawling, crouching (squatting).

  • Ability to carry/lift up to 10-35 pounds.

  • Ability to work with High Hazard Chemicals.

  • Experience using software applications for internet navigation, email, Microsoft Suite and/or other specialized computer applications.

  • Experience utilizing and following detailed work instructions, reading, and interpreting blueprints, drawings, or specifications, in English.

  • Experience in a technical or mechanical field performing work with basic hand, power and/or pneumatic (air) tools.

  • Experience with tubing and ducting manufacturing/installation/maintenance.
