Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a high-performing team of mobile and frontend engineers delivering hybrid development capabilities at scale
  • Own and evolve cross-platform architecture covering navigation, rendering, offline support, and performance
  • Uplift developer experience with improved tooling, testing pipelines, observability, and local dev flows
  • Define technical strategy in partnership with engineering, product, and design leaders
  • Foster a culture of clarity, craft, and continuous improvement within the team
  • Build rituals supporting team wellbeing, delivery excellence, and inclusive collaboration
  • Drive initiatives enabling product teams to ship fast, reliably, and consistently across iOS, Android, and web
  • Collaborate across Canva's Client Platform group to bridge native mobile and web experiences
  • Mentor engineers on best practices for design-focused, scalable client-side development
  • Measure and optimize team impact on Canva's billions of users through key metrics and observability

Required Qualifications

  • Experience leading engineering teams in mobile or frontend domains, ideally with hybrid or native mobile experience (Swift, Kotlin, React, React Native, TypeScript)
  • Proven track record of driving architectural decisions impacting hundreds of developers or millions of users
  • Demonstrated ability to create clarity in ambiguous environments and scale through others
  • Strong passion for coaching, people growth, and building high-performing, inclusive teams
  • Experience defining technical strategy with engineering, product, and design leaders
  • Deep commitment to delivery excellence, system health, and long-term maintainability
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with cross-platform architecture including navigation, rendering, offline support, and performance optimization
