As a Senior Backend Software Engineer - Edge - Cloudflare, you'll take significant ownership of our edge platform, designing core components like worker frameworks and observability tooling while driving reliability, performance, and security improvements. You'll collaborate across Canva's innovative engineering teams, balancing technical depth with our design-focused culture to deliver magical user experiences at global scale. You'll independently lead high-impact initiatives, from resolving complex incidents to shaping our technical roadmap, all while mentoring teammates and fostering a learning-focused environment. With hands-on experience in Cloudflare Workers and edge providers, you'll optimize our infrastructure to empower Canva's product teams to innovate rapidly. Your architectural thinking and problem-solving will directly influence platform direction, enhancing developer experience and reducing tech debt in our fast-evolving ecosystem. Key Responsibilities

• Design and implement core components of Canva's edge platform, including worker frameworks, infrastructure automation, and observability tooling
• Lead initiatives to improve system reliability, performance, and security with significant ownership of services or components
• Collaborate across multiple teams and stakeholders to define high-impact solutions that balance thoroughness and timely delivery
• Write technical proposals and documentation, presenting solutions clearly to Canva's engineering community
• Investigate and resolve complex operational incidents, contributing to post-incident learning and prevention
• Drive improvements to engineering processes and platform health metrics
• Contribute to the team's technical strategy and roadmap in alignment with Canva's long-term design innovation goals
• Mentor other engineers, provide actionable feedback, and help build a learning-focused culture
• Optimize edge infrastructure to deliver seamless, lightning-fast experiences for Canva's global creative community
• Enhance developer experience at the edge, enabling product teams to innovate rapidly

Required Qualifications

• Proficiency in JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, Java, Terraform, CI/CD pipelines, observability tools, and security practices
• Strong understanding of DNS, Firewall, Security, Load Balancing, CDN, and Edge Computing concepts
• Hands-on experience with at least one major edge provider such as Cloudflare, Fastly, or Akamai
• Experience building and managing Cloudflare Workers or similar edge runtime environments
• Proven track record of improving operational health, reducing technical debt, and advocating for engineering needs with non-technical stakeholders
• Excellent problem-solving skills with experience delivering impactful projects independently or across teams
• 5+ years of backend software engineering experience in scalable, high-traffic systems

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working in design-focused or creative technology companies
• Background in mentoring junior engineers and fostering collaborative team cultures
• Familiarity with Canva's technology stack or similar design platform architectures
• Contributions to open-source edge computing projects or Cloudflare Workers community
• Experience optimizing edge platforms for global creative user experiences
