As a Senior Software Engineer - CDN (Cloudflare or similar technologies) on our Edge team within the Product Platform Group, you'll be at the frontline of every request powering Canva's creative magic. Based in Sydney, Australia, in a hybrid model, you'll design and own core edge platform components using Cloudflare Workers, Terraform, and observability tools to ensure our platform remains secure, performant, and scalable for millions of designers worldwide. Your work will blend deep technical expertise with Canva's collaborative, innovative culture, influencing everything from system reliability to developer delight. You'll lead high-impact initiatives like improving edge performance, resolving complex incidents, and mentoring teammates, while collaborating across engineering, product, and design squads. With proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, edge providers like Cloudflare/Fastly/Akamai, and strong architectural thinking, you'll drive Canva's technical strategy, advocate for engineering needs, and contribute to a learning-focused environment. Key Responsibilities

• Design and implement core components of Canva's edge platform, including worker frameworks, infrastructure automation, and observability tooling
• Lead initiatives to enhance system reliability, performance, and security with significant ownership of key services
• Collaborate across engineering, product, and design teams to define high-impact edge solutions
• Write technical proposals, documentation, and present solutions to the broader Canva engineering community
• Investigate and resolve complex operational incidents, driving post-incident learning and prevention
• Drive improvements to engineering processes and platform health metrics
• Contribute to the Edge team's technical strategy and roadmap aligned with Canva's long-term goals
• Mentor junior engineers, provide actionable feedback, and build a collaborative, learning-focused culture
• Optimize developer experience at the edge to empower Canva's design innovators
• Balance thoroughness with timely delivery in a fast-paced, creative environment

Required Qualifications

• Proficiency in JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, Java, Terraform, CI/CD pipelines, observability tools, and security practices
• Strong understanding of DNS, Firewall, Security, Load Balancing, CDN, and Edge Computing fundamentals
• Hands-on experience with at least one major edge provider such as Cloudflare, Fastly, or Akamai
• Experience building and managing Cloudflare Workers or equivalent edge runtime environments
• Proven track record of improving operational health, reducing technical debt, and advocating for engineering needs with non-technical stakeholders
• Excellent problem-solving skills with demonstrated ability to deliver impactful projects independently or across teams
• Strong architectural thinking and ability to evaluate trade-offs in technical decisions

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience mentoring engineers and fostering a learning-focused culture
• Background in high-scale, design-forward platforms serving millions of users
• Familiarity with Canva's tech stack or similar collaborative creative tools
• Contributions to open-source edge computing projects
