Key Responsibilities

• Build well-documented APIs, platforms, and self-serve tooling to empower Canva teams
• Evolve systems with urgency to meet rapidly growing customer needs and business ambitions
• Operate, monitor, and diagnose issues in mission-critical production systems
• Make systems more observable, resilient, and secure through proactive incident response
• Identify technical debt, communicate impacts, and propose actions to reduce complexity
• Mentor colleagues and foster an open, collaborative culture of continuous learning
• Work primarily on backend Java while contributing across the stack as needed
• Deeply integrate promotional platform with content management, personalization, and experimentation systems
• Design platforms with scalability, ease of use, and self-serve principles in mind
• Drive revenue growth by enabling paid user acquisition, product adoption, retention, and upsell opportunities
• Collaborate with design and product teams to create intuitive, impactful revenue tools
• Leverage AI tools to accelerate development and innovate on revenue enablement solutions

Required Qualifications

• Highly competent in backend Java development with proven experience building scalable systems
• Strong knowledge of building APIs and leveraging databases for high-performance applications
• Demonstrated ability to work closely with internal stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver custom solutions
• Experience identifying solution options, weighing tradeoffs, and proposing scalable software architectures
• Strong communication skills to explain technical concepts to diverse audiences including non-technical stakeholders
• Comfortable in collaborative team environments with frequent pair programming and code review
• Hands-on experience using AI tools in coding and programming to drive greater impact
• Track record of mentoring colleagues and contributing to team growth and culture

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience building self-serve platforms or promotional systems in a revenue/growth context
• Familiarity with content management, personalization, and experimentation systems
• Background in mission-critical production systems with strong observability and resilience practices
• Exposure to full-stack development with willingness to contribute across the stack
• Previous work in high-growth tech companies scaling revenue platforms
• Experience reducing technical debt while maintaining business velocity
