Overview

Joining Capital One’s Card Legal Team means more than just legal review; it places you at the heart of our innovation journey. We are seeking an attorney to support the product and engineering teams building the cloud-based platforms that power our industry-leading businesses. In this role, you will practice law in novel territory, advising on capabilities that may not yet exist and helping to translate complex financial events into scalable digital experiences. You will serve as a strategic partner to product owners, helping us work backward from a vision to transform how we serve hundreds of millions of customers.This position will have responsibility for:
  • Strategic Counseling: Act as a thought partner to senior product leaders, providing proactive, business-minded legal advice on the evolution of our technology platforms.

  • Risk Management: Identify and assess legal risks associated with large-scale platform migrations and technological transformation, ensuring we balance innovation with compliance.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with the Business Risk Office, Compliance, and other Legal stakeholders to develop creative solutions and resolve issues.

  • Navigating Complexity: Master the full landscape of relevant laws and apply them to new platforms involving financial calculations and customer servicing.

  • Who you are:You are an intellectually curious and business-oriented lawyer who thrives in a fast-paced environment. You are comfortable being the go-to expert on legal topics and have a knack for breaking down complexity into simple terms.

  • While prior experience in financial services or technology is a plus, it is not required if you possess the ability to understand complex topics quickly.Basic Qualifications:
  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school

  • Active member in good standing of at least one state bar

  • At least 3 years of experience as an attorney in a law firm, in-house legal department, or government agency

  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of experience as an attorney in a law firm, in-house legal department and/or government agency. 

  • At this time, Capital One will not sponsor a new applicant for employment authorization for this position.This role is hybrid, meaning associates spend 3 days per week in-person at one of our offices listed on this job posting.The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.
