About E&ES

Caterpillar’s Electrification & Energy Solutions (E&ES) Division will focus on delivering advanced electrified powertrain, zero-emissions products/technologies, and the solutions and services associated with these technologies. Job Summary

Caterpillar’s Low Voltage Motor and Generator Team is responsible for designing the motors and generators that power electric drivetrains across Caterpillar machines. As the shift toward electrification accelerates, the team is expanding its portfolio to include a comprehensive range of electric components. In the position of Senior Design Engineer, you will spearhead the development of next-generation motor and generator components, while also enhancing the performance, cost-effectiveness, and durability of existing products.

What You Will Do
• Lead the design and development of motor and generator components, ensuring optimal performance, cost-effectiveness, durability, manufacturability, and ease of service.

• Collaborate with system and machine engineering teams to define detailed specifications and requirements for components.

• Generate and present design analysis reports using product risk management tools (e.g., FMEA) to identify potential risks, implement mitigation strategies, and support verification activities.

• Drive comprehensive design reviews throughout the product lifecycle, leveraging analytical methods, prototype testing, and cross-functional team input.

• Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, and external partners to ensure high-quality, stable, and timely implementation of product and process changes.

• Partner with validation teams to develop and execute simulation and physical testing plans that align with project timelines, budgets, and quality standards.


What You Will Have

Degree Requirement: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related discipline (ME or EE preferred)

Technical Excellence: Design and product development knowledge for components or systems used in on-road or off-road machines, vehicles or equipment.
Level Extensive Experience:
• Deep proficiency with 3D modeling software (CAD, Pro-E, Creo, etc)
• Experience with quality tools including FMEA, APQP, BIQ & PPAP
• Advises others on the assessment and provision of all technical solutions.
• Engages appropriate subject matter resources to effectively resolve technical issues.
• Mentors others to enhance their technical competence and its application to achieve more effective technical solutions.
• Coaches others in promoting, defining, analyzing, and providing superior technical solutions to business problems.
• Provides effective solutions to moderate technical challenges through strong technical competence, effectively examining implications of events and issues.
• Assumes accountability for personal technical performance and holds others responsible for theirs.

Analytical Thinking: Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.
