Our Cloud Operations Engineering team ensures 24/7/365 reliability for customers ranging from innovative startups to Fortune 500 enterprises undergoing digital transformation. This critical role involves monitoring mission-critical systems, troubleshooting complex production issues, and collaborating globally to maintain our industry-leading uptime guarantees.

Based in Palo Alto, California or Seattle, Washington, or fully remote across the United States, this position follows a weekend-oriented schedule (Wednesday-Sunday, Saturday-Wednesday, or Friday-Tuesday) with West Coast hours (9am-5pm PST). Key Responsibilities at MongoDB

As a Cloud Operations Engineer at MongoDB, you'll tackle high-impact challenges daily:

  • Proactive Monitoring & Incident Detection: Create and maintain system alert dashboards, review critical events and logs to detect emerging customer-facing incidents before they impact production.
  • Production Troubleshooting: Access customer MongoDB Atlas instances for performance analysis, server administration, and issue resolution across multi-cloud environments.
  • Global Team Collaboration: Coordinate with worldwide Cloud Operations Engineers to uphold our uptime SLAs and deliver exceptional reliability to enterprise customers.
  • Process & Tool Innovation: Scale our operations through strategic implementation of monitoring tools, automation scripts, and refined incident response workflows.
  • Root Cause Analysis: Lead post-incident reviews to identify process breakdowns and implement preventive measures against future outages.
  • Automation Development: Write Python, Go, or JavaScript scripts to automate routine tasks, reducing Mean Time to Resolve (MTTR) for customer incidents.
  • On-Call Excellence: Participate in weekly rotation handling proactive alerts from automated monitoring and reactive escalations from our Technical Services team.
  • Cross-Team Partnership: Work with Product Management, Cloud Engineering, and Support to continuously improve Atlas infrastructure management applications.
  • Executive Communication: Brief leadership on major outages and coordinate escalation management for critical customer impacts.
  • Documentation Mastery: Author comprehensive troubleshooting guides, SOPs, and corner-case documentation to empower the entire operations team.

Qualifications & Requirements

To succeed as a Cloud Operations Engineer at MongoDB, you'll need:

  • 2+ years hands-on experience as DevOps, SRE, or Cloud Operations engineer with on-call responsibilities
  • Expert-level Linux system administration including advanced configuration, performance tuning, and troubleshooting
  • Demonstrated expertise in monitoring systems, performance data collection, analysis, and reporting
  • Strong database operations knowledge with preference for MongoDB/NoSQL experience
  • Deep networking expertise (DNS, TCP/IP, firewalls, load balancers)
  • Hands-on experience with AWS, GCP, Azure cloud infrastructure platforms
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language: Java, Go, Python, or JavaScript
  • CS/CE degree or equivalent practical experience
  • Must be US Citizen (Special Requirement)
