Job Description

About the role

As Lead/Architect, you will make an impact by showing your proficiency in Java (Java 8+, Java 17), Spring Boot, Microservices, and Apache Kafka, including Kafka Streams API. This role involves leading the design and implementation of scalable, resilient event streaming platforms for enterprise applications. You will be a valued member of the Engineering & Cloud Solutions team and work collaboratively with architects, DevOps engineers, and cross-functional stakeholders to deliver high-quality, secure, and efficient solutions.

In this role, you will:

· Lead the architecture and development of event-driven microservices using Java 8+/Java 17 and Spring Boot.

· Design and implement real-time data streaming solutions using Apache Kafka, including Kafka Streams API.

· Define and enforce best practices for event sourcing, stream processing, and message-driven systems.

· Collaborate with data engineering and platform teams to integrate Kafka with enterprise data pipelines.

· Optimize performance and scalability of streaming applications across distributed environments.

· Work with Oracle, SQL Server, and NoSQL databases for data persistence and retrieval.

· Ensure high availability, fault tolerance, and security of event streaming platforms.

· Mentor developers and contribute to architectural decisions and code reviews.

· Collaborate with DevOps teams to automate deployment and monitoring of Kafka-based services.

Work model: Hybrid.

What you need to have to be considered:

· 10+ years of experience in backend development using Java/J2EE.

· Strong hands-on experience with Java 8+, Java 17, Spring Boot, and Microservices.

· Deep expertise in Apache Kafka including Kafka Streams API, Kafka Connect, and Kafka topics/partitions.

· Experience with Oracle, SQL Server, and/or NoSQL databases.

· Solid understanding of event-driven architecture, stream processing, and message queuing systems.

Salary and compensation:

The annual salary for this position will be between $81,337 to $163,000 depending on the experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate. This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program and stock awards, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
