Position Summary

The Field Service & Applications Specialist will provide in-field technical and applications support to Cepheid customers across Malawi. This role is responsible for installation, training, troubleshooting, and system integration, with a strong focus on driving customer satisfaction and expanding the use of Cepheid diagnostic solutions.

This is a field-based role in Lilongwe, Malawi, requiring up to 80% of time spent on-site with customers.

Key Responsibilities

Technical & Service

• Install, maintain, and troubleshoot Cepheid systems at customer sites.

• Support laboratory teams with system integration, workflow optimization, validation, and accreditation.

• Deliver training on instruments, software, reagents, and connectivity solutions.

• Record activities in SFDC (installations, training, customer support, follow-up) and provide market intelligence reports.

• Conduct preventive maintenance, system modifications, reactive repairs, installations, and de-installations.

• Manage spare parts stock, car inventory, and other required service materials.

• Develop strong customer relationships, ensuring high levels of satisfaction and optimized system performance.

• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to resolve issues and ensure corrective actions are implemented.

Commercial Support

• Partner with Sales Representatives to develop account strategies that accelerate Cepheid business growth.

• Engage with healthcare stakeholders to generate testing demand, identify new assay opportunities, and support adoption.

• Provide pre- and post-sales technical support in Malawi and across Southern Africa.

• Conduct product demonstrations, technical presentations, and workshops for customers and stakeholders.

Training

• Complete all required training on time.

• Deliver effective customer training programs consistently.

• Share technical insights and best practices with regional and global teams.

Qualifications & Experience

• Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of experience, OR

  • Diploma in Engineering or Biology with significant diagnostic experience.

  • Molecular Biology expertise is a strong advantage.

• Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years as a Medical Technologist with diagnostic market exposure.

  • Hands-on experience with lab automation, LIS/connectivity, molecular diagnostics, and microbiology techniques.

  • Experience in technical support and customer training for clinical diagnostics.

  • Experience working with KOLs in Malawi and building customer relationships.

  • Previous exposure to African healthcare/diagnostics is an advantage.

• Effective problem-solving and organizational skills.

• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Outlook, and CRM/ERP systems (Salesforce preferred).

• Strong cultural awareness and adherence to compliance and integrity standards.

Other Requirements

• Willingness to spend 80% of time on-site with customers.

• Valid driver’s license.

• Travel within Malawi, with some regional and occasional global travel.

• Flexibility to work after hours and weekends as required.

• Comfortable working in laboratory environments with moderate-to-loud noise levels.
