Datadog seeks an experienced Director, Enterprise Sales - Public Sector (SLED) to lead our Japan team targeting State, Local, Education, healthcare, universities, and research institutions. This leadership role drives full-cycle sales strategy for Datadog's cloud monitoring and security platform, building high-performing account executive teams that deliver new business growth and customer expansion in Japan's complex public sector market.

Based in our Tokyo office, you'll champion Datadog's mission to break down silos and solve cloud complexity for public sector organizations undergoing digital transformation. Leverage Datadog's observability platform to help government agencies, educational institutions, and healthcare providers monitor their entire technology stacks with real-time insights into infrastructure, applications, logs, and security.

Key Responsibilities at Datadog

  • Build and manage SLED sales team through recruitment, onboarding, training, and performance management to drive new contracts and upsell opportunities
  • Achieve monthly, quarterly, and annual targets while leading team forecasting accuracy and pipeline health
  • Coach account executives on building C-level relationships, navigating complex public sector procurement, and closing strategic deals
  • Develop and execute Go-To-Market strategy tailored to Japan public sector needs including government, education, hospitals, and research institutions
  • Partner with Marketing, Product, and Customer Success teams to create targeted messaging, sales enablement materials, and customer journey maps
  • Lead weekly forecast reviews and actively participate in customer meetings to accelerate deal velocity
  • Monitor KPIs including deal size, win rates, sales cycle length, and forecast precision
  • Leverage internal resources and executive sponsorship for complex, high-value negotiations

Qualifications & Requirements

  • 5+ years public sector sales leadership experience driving new business and expansion in SLED markets
  • Proven success leading high-performing B2B technology sales teams in enterprise environments
  • Expertise managing complex sales cycles with legal, procurement, and multi-stakeholder processes
  • Deep relationships and credibility selling IT solutions to C-level executives in government/education
  • Demonstrated ability setting ambitious sales targets and coaching teams to consistent overachievement
  • Hands-on sales success with passion for mentoring and sharing closing methodologies
  • Based in Tokyo with flexibility for domestic travel and up to 4 annual international trips
