The Director, International Government Affairs (IGA) role at Gilead Sciences in Uxbridge, United Kingdom, is a strategic leadership position supporting key global regions: ACE MM and ICR, spanning more than 25 markets across four continents. Reporting to the ACE MM GA Executive Director with a dotted line to the ICR GA ED, this role translates therapeutic area policy priorities for HIV, CAR-T, and oncology into actionable strategies. Ideal candidates bring experience from commercial, medical, or value & access functions, combined with creative thinking to enhance patient access and sustain innovation in dynamic healthcare landscapes.
Provide active support to Gilead’s Government Affairs team in ACE MM and ICR, driving strategies that align with business goals. Partner with regional GA leads, global commercial, and medical teams to tackle cross-functional challenges and opportunities. Engage stakeholders to influence policy debates and legislation, meeting defined KPIs.
Lead the creation and execution of innovative government affairs policies supporting Gilead’s objectives. Manage regional health and pharmaceutical policy initiatives, ensuring timely, on-budget delivery. Act as the regional liaison with the Global Policy team, representing ACE MM and ICR in key forums.
Build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders to bolster Gilead’s reputation among policymakers. Identify collaboration opportunities to advance the company’s mission. Align GA initiatives with broader business priorities through cross-functional teamwork.
Candidates must possess extensive experience in government affairs, public affairs, or policy roles within biotechnology or pharmaceuticals, with a proven track record of successful advocacy outcomes. In-depth knowledge of healthcare systems, particularly policies related to HIV, oncology, and CAR-T therapies, is essential. Expertise in value, access, reimbursement frameworks, and pharmaceutical budgets is highly valued.
Strong strategic thinking, business judgment, and analytical skills are required, alongside the ability to manage diverse markets, stakeholders, and complex projects. An entrepreneurial mindset, collaborative spirit, and accountability are key. Outstanding communication skills in English, including authoring complex documents and preparing stakeholder reports, are mandatory.
A Bachelor’s degree (BSc or BA) is required, with an advanced degree (MA, MSc, or MBA) preferred. Independent judgment, minimal supervision needs, and familiarity with political and business environments in ACE MM and ICR are advantageous.
