Role Overview

The Director, New Product Planning & Drug Delivery & Device Innovation, plays a pivotal role in shaping Gilead's future in pharmaceutical delivery systems. Based onsite in Foster City, California, five days a week, this leader will drive global strategies to advance drug delivery and combination product technologies across Gilead’s pipeline, including HIV, oncology, and inflammatory disease portfolios. Spanning device engineering, primary containers, process development, packaging, and labeling, the role bridges commercial strategy, innovation, and commercialization. Key Responsibilities

In this dynamic role, you’ll leverage high EQ and IQ to influence decisions across the Devices, Packaging, & Process (DPP) organization and beyond. Responsibilities include:

• Developing a comprehensive long-term innovation pipeline for DPP across all Gilead therapeutic areas, including HIV, oncology, and inflammatory diseases.
• Leading scenario planning for new development programs within Pharmaceutical Manufacturing & Development (PDM).
• Representing DPP on early-stage pre-pivotal programs, ensuring cross-functional support and clinical success.
• Incorporating human-centered design and human factors principles in project strategies.
• Leading feasibility-stage device programs through technical landscaping, prototyping, assessment, and down-selection.
• Collaborating with Human Factors, Packaging & Labeling to identify user needs and innovative solutions.
• Representing DPP Innovation to leadership for enterprise endorsement.
• Managing external engineering partners and a team of scientists and engineers.

Qualifications & Requirements

To succeed, candidates must hold a Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field with at least 10 years of relevant industry experience. Alternatively, a Bachelor’s Degree with 12+ years qualifies. Preferred candidates bring business acumen, learning agility, cross-functional collaboration skills, and experience in drug delivery devices, human factors, and pharma development.
