Step into the role of Director of Engineering at the prestigious Radisson Blu Aqua Chicago Downtown, nestled in the architectural marvel of Aqua Tower in Chicago's vibrant heart. As a senior executive and key Executive Committee member, you will oversee all engineering, facilities, and asset-management operations for this landmark property. Lead a dedicated unionized team to maintain operational excellence, safety, and long-term value, aligning with Radisson Blu brand standards, Choice Hotels quality assurance, and guest expectations. This position demands strategic leadership in preventive maintenance, life-safety compliance, capital planning, and union relations, ensuring the hotel remains an iconic hospitality destination.
Serve as a fully engaged Executive Committee member, shaping hotel-wide strategy, service excellence, and financial performance. Ensure the property's physical condition upholds Radisson Blu positioning and Choice Hotels standards. Collaborate with ownership, asset management, and corporate partners on capital priorities and long-range planning.
Provide oversight for HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire/life safety, elevators, kitchens, pools, guest rooms, and public areas. Enforce a robust PM program with work orders, inspections, and documentation compliant with brand, safety, and regulatory standards. Maintain inspection-ready conditions for audits and walkthroughs while balancing proactive and reactive maintenance.
Lead a unionized engineering team per Chicago-specific collective bargaining agreements, work rules, and seniority provisions. Partner with HR on discipline, scheduling, overtime, grievances, and contract interpretation. Foster union relationships while upholding management rights and aligning staffing with demands.
Develop and control the engineering budget with focus on cost discipline and forecasting. Partner on CapEx planning, execution, and vendor management. Support infrastructure lifecycle and major system replacements.
Ensure adherence to OSHA, City of Chicago codes, fire regulations, environmental standards, and Choice requirements. Lead emergency preparedness, safety training, and risk mitigation.
Ideal candidates are seasoned engineering leaders with hospitality expertise, proven union management experience, and deep knowledge of building systems. A bachelor's degree in engineering or related field is preferred, alongside 10+ years in hotel engineering leadership. Chicago-specific union experience, financial acumen, and commitment to safety compliance are essential. Proficiency in CMMS software, capital planning, and cross-functional collaboration sets top performers apart.
