Role Overview

As Director, Software Engineering - Reliability Engineering, ITC, you will lead a team of elite Site Reliability Engineers (SREs) within Nike's Resilience Engineering organization. This role focuses on delivering highly reliable and observable software that supports Nike's digital ecosystem, including Nike.com, Nike App, SNKRS, retail platforms, wholesale, and supply chain technologies. Based in Karnataka, India, you will partner across Global Technology, influencing Directors, VPs, and business leaders to ensure seamless experiences for millions of users. This is a strategic leadership position requiring deep technical expertise in SRE, DevOps, and modern cloud practices.

Key Responsibilities

In this pivotal role, you will drive Nike's reliability engineering initiatives with a focus on proactive risk mitigation and operational excellence.

• Partner with product, engineering, business, and operations leaders to identify risks, vulnerabilities, and system limits before they impact millions of users.
• Technically lead and mentor your SRE team, improving platform availability, reliability, and observability while automating toil through innovative tooling and processes.
• Collaborate on a multi-year reliability roadmap with peer teams, global partners, and product management to align with Nike's business goals.
• Define, curate, and track key metrics for system health, performance, team success, and continuous improvement.
• Foster an inclusive team culture that values diverse backgrounds, promotes psychological safety, and optimizes for high performance.
• Hire top diverse engineering talent and coach them into Nike's next generation of leaders.
• Work with SRE leads and reliability experts to monitor industry trends, upskill teams, and pioneer new reliability patterns organization-wide.

Qualifications & Requirements

Nike seeks a proven leader with a strong software engineering foundation and passion for reliability at scale.

• Bachelor's degree with 15+ years of experience as a software engineer, principal engineer, team lead, or manager of distributed teams.
• Expertise in delivering large-scale software using modern reliability practices: multi-region/multi-cloud setups, active/active architectures, canary deployments, synthetic testing, containers, and more.
• Hands-on experience building, deploying, and operating distributed microservices in cloud environments, preferably AWS.
• Proven ability to build stakeholder relationships, leverage technical credibility, and drive outcomes through influence.
• Track record of reducing toil in complex systems via automation and process optimization.
• Deep knowledge of observability tools, processes, and mindset; open-source experience is a plus.
• Passion for learning, mentoring, and building data-driven teams focused on continuous improvement.

Preferred Experience

Experience in retail tech, high-traffic e-commerce, or global supply chain systems is highly valued. Familiarity with Nike's digital properties or similar scale environments will accelerate your impact.
