As Director, U.S. Public Affairs, HIV Communications, you will play a pivotal role in advancing Gilead's HIV portfolio. This position involves leading the public affairs strategy for a major HIV product launch, from pre-launch planning to post-launch execution. You will craft compelling narratives that highlight the product's value in the treatment landscape, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and amplify Gilead's reputation among stakeholders, communities, and media. Based in the U.S., this full-time leadership role offers the chance to make a tangible impact on patient lives while contributing to Gilead's bold ambitions in HIV, oncology, and inflammatory diseases.
Develop a comprehensive U.S. launch strategy aligned with business objectives and public affairs priorities. Identify key messages, positioning, and tone, while leading message testing and community listening sessions. Anticipate market needs and partner with government affairs, medical affairs, and market access teams to shape access strategies. Provide strategic counsel to senior leaders to ensure alignment across Gilead's HIV portfolio.
Drive brand awareness and value communication throughout the launch lifecycle. Oversee the creation, review, and execution of press materials, HCP and patient stories, executive talking points, and paid partnerships. Develop training and briefing materials for leaders and spokespeople. Advance integrated communications across paid, earned, owned, and social channels, with targeted storytelling in key geographies.
Contribute to issues management, track media coverage and sentiment, and execute ongoing strategies to build Gilead's HIV reputation. Report against KPIs in coordination with the corporate reputation team and oversee budget allocation for initiatives.
To succeed in this role, candidates need a Bachelor’s degree in communications, business, public health, or a science-related field with at least 12 years of relevant experience, or a Master’s degree with a minimum of 10 years. Proven expertise in leading public affairs communications for biopharmaceutical product launches is essential. You should demonstrate the ability to collaborate in highly matrixed organizations, lead complex cross-functional projects, manage teams, and serve as a trusted advisor to executives. Exceptional communication skills—verbal, written, and interpersonal—combined with creativity and strategic thinking, are critical.
Gilead Sciences offers a premium compensation package, including a competitive salary estimated between $230,000 and $320,000 annually, performance incentives, and equity opportunities.
